Great for player development, perhaps just as good with player retention. Exciting stuff!

Take note those who continue to bemoan our club sitting on their hands, based solely on the presumption that it hasn't been reported in the media.

@olisik @Elegt

A clash possibly of two styles.....into the melting pot and see what comes out..

Experience has just walked in the building...Yze now Williams to go with Richardson.

A wealth of footy knowledge and finally some real experience.

It's been our weakness in the FD.

edit: did I say I was excited??? you bet I am.

Goodwin just got thrown the best life-preserver he could have hoped for.

You mean good for Yze. What are the odds Goody is gone before r5, with the chance of salvaging our season if he starts poorly?

When I heard this news for some reason that song that has the line "celerrrbbrate good times, come on!" popped into my head.

Woohoo! indeed.?

I know we've been in dire straits, but I didn't expect to lose Mahoney for nothing and get Chocs for free.

Hahahhaahahahaahaah

Jeez, even in a great news thread like this, some people can't resist turning it into a dig at Goodwin.  Classy.

Wasn't he one of the assistant coaches sacked by Richmond who then went on to win three premierships?

Not an assistant.

Involved in player development. As in, developing the players.. who went on to win Three Premierships.

Let the pessimism rest for a moment.

The more things change the more they stay the same d stone. Just ignore them. If we won the flag they would be complaining  we did not win  by more.

The more we ignore our failures the longer they continue. Shoulda made finals this year and be further advanced for a crack at a flag. Goodwin still on P plates, Williams has won a flag.

Did not see that coming. Very good appointment on the face of it.

From what we saw in his last couple of roles, he seems to be one of those guys that young players love, with a good mix of the old school vs the new.

Holy [censored] I thought it was April 1st. Awesome get. Heard him on the radio the other week. Left me thinking to myself that we need him....good job MFC

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
