I’ve never seen anyone as desperate to get discounted school fees as Stevo is at Xavier. Reports on them nearly as much as he does the Kennel

Is this a bitter blow for the club?

The development boss who hasn't actually developed any young players in the past four years? I'd say not.

Pickett, Rivers and LJ were developing nicely.

They had a good year where the opposition most weeks would've put minimal time in to.  These 3 have shown that with the right development from here on, they should be extremely good players for the MFC.

Reality is, we have no idea if Egan's departure will be a good/bad thing, because we don't know how much of an impact he has in the development of certain players.  Given he is reasonably well respected in the AFL circles, I'm going with the "he will be a loss" story, but I'd be confident to think that he is replaceable and his departure won't set us back.

Stevens said Egan is 'very highly rated in the AFL coaching fraternity'.

I feel like journos always say that whenever a coach leaves one club for another, or moves on to something else.

If they were all this good then the game would be a far better spectacle than it is right now.

We've had a lot of players go backwards since 2018

To be fair, development (I think) is generally misunderstood and is not about turning kids into superstars. It’s about rounding players out and giving them the tools to be able to develop into young men who are capable of managing being AFL players, who can then blossom.

I found it interesting listening to the Sacked podcast yesterday with Barry Hall, who said that the culture was bad when he was at St Kilda but he was lucky to have some good influences who helped him to develop the tools to stick around and eventually somewhat fulfill his potential. Also being taught how to play as a proper KPF, after getting by in juniors on talent having been a tall mid who went through a massive late growth spurt.

Just having someone to spend the time with kids who all chase the footy and use their raw talent, then face the reality of needing to learn the defensive aspects of the game at AFL level and work on their craft, positioning, etc. A club doesn’t need superstar coaches for this work, but they need to put in the resources.

If Stevens said this, then I definitely know, without a shadow of a doubt, it's a certainty that the 'AFL coaching fraternity' probably have never heard of Egan.

Egan’s employment with Xavier College includes a position with the Old Xaverians as “Head of Development”.

There is disquiet within the amateurs football community about the growing disparity between the haves and the have nots. Clubs like Xavs will prosper because of this and similar arrangements and good luck to them but other clubs will fall by the wayside in the post Covid environment.

I’ve attended many VAFA B and C section games in recent seasons (none in 2020). A number of clubs in those competitions rely on canteen sales, raffles and post game bar sales. If these facilities are limited/reduced next year because of ongoing restrictions/precautions relating to Covid19, many of those clubs will struggle.

More so, clubs in lower divisions. Junior clubs are also doing it hard.

The game depends on players coming up through community grass roots footy.

There are tough times ahead.

Do you think Yze may be a better development Coach seeing he played that role at Hawthorn and find a replacement mid field coach. ??

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
