It was a tough initiation for the small forward who made his debut in Perth in Round 1 and played only one other game for the season.

I reckon this guy is close to the most important player we have. If he comes on and is able to form a formidable combination with Kozzy, then I think our entire game plan will look a whole lot better.

Let's hope that he gets the opportunity to show his wares and that he can find a spot in the forward line although he may find it difficult to break back into the side without some scintillating form in the Ressie's.

Good luck Toby !!!

deserved a fairer crack - have no idea how u can get picked round 1 after a whole pre season and then fall so out of favour especially in such a spluttering forward line

"The most important player we have."

This is arguably the silliest comment ever posted in Demonland.

I guess I'm ambivalent about Toby.  I've seen the odd encouraging glimpse, but not enough to convince me that he has the 'wares' to make it.  Like others, I find it mystifying that we didn't see more of him during the season.  Hopefully he put the time to good use, and he 'blitzes' pre season 2021.

From all reports he blitzed preseason 2020 and it got him nowhere after Round 1.

I think he could be a very important piece of the puzzle if he does come on. Could be a FP or HFF spot waiting for him

Thanks mate - I've got some stiff competition but I'm just happy for the nomination.

I stand by it. Our game plan relies so heavily on small forwards of which we currently have one. I don't think it's too far fetched to say that whoever is able to fill that position is going to have as much of an impact on our success as any player on the list.

I'll admit though, I've made the comment taking the current performance of our players for granted. Perhaps, it might be better to have said it is my opinion, that whatever happens in the small forward space will be the most important factor to our success in the next year or two.

Amazing that he didn't get back into the team with the compressed schedule and so many tired players.   Melksham was terrible all season, Bedford should have come in for him at some point.   And Spargo got games ahead of him?

He played one of the games in Cairns and was hopeless.

Would Bedford have even been drafted if he wasn't linked to us through the next gen academy?

Two years on he has shown next to nothing and would be very fortunate to get another contract.

The two mediocre games at AFL level are not especially the concern, its the lack of impact in the VFL in 2019 that worries me most. I just don't think he has the tools to be a good player at this level.

Wasn't impressed. Two games and looked way out of his depth in both of them.

Did show a bit however in that Arden Street practice match against North where both sides had a combo of senior and VFL listed players.

Hopefully through natural development over the pre season, he takes a big step up as we have poor small forward depth compared to say a St Kilda.

He’s one that really would’ve suffered at the lack of a quality 2nd tier competition, there were flashes this year but only flashes. He’s got to show something next year or I’d say he’ll be moved on

So was the rest of the team....

That included All Australians and Top 3 Brownlow players.

Bit harsh to really pin point his game in those poor team outings.

My post was responding to Pickett2Jackson who incorrectly stated that he didn't get back into the team, when he did before being dropped again.

And my post was in response to you saying he was useless.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
