The same people lamenting Weid leaving lamented Oscar McDonald leaving.

Might have missed them, but not seen one comment 'lamenting' the loss of Weideman.

Reckon this is just you taking another pot shot. Classy.

Nearly shed a tear when I read this, it's like one of your sons leaving home.

Sam Weideman another young man with plenty of class who acknowledged our club in glowing terms, helps explain why he was loved so much by his teammates, he sounds as disappointed that he didn’t quite make it as we are. Good luck Sam.!!

All the best Sam sorry it didn't quite work out like we all wanted. Good luck you deserve it and thanks for your efforts.

I was a big Jackson fan, but he departed disgracefully and disrespectfully on many levels, so I feel accordingly towards him now.

I never liked Weidemans footy besides seeing a little potential (should have tested him in defense though) but the classy way he just departed, like a real man with fine character, leaves nothing but complete respect and best wishes for Sam.

He's been poised to deliver for 7 years now...

I love the guy, I watched him kick a bag and mark everything at Box Hill in his first year - his team mates were being slaughtered at Geelong at the same time - Roo's last year  - but the bottom line is every season after that was 6 years of 'promise'...

Good luck to Sam. always thought he had talent, i think the bombers 2022 game plan would suit him.

They had a game plan?

Wishing him well but boy he needs to get a bit of mongrel in him if he wants to be a decent AFL player.

Loved the guy as well.

Similar mold to John Tilbrook, fantastic club man and great VFL 2nds player but could not bring that level of play into the Demons VFL side. All the best Sam with Essendon, don't take any supplements there and I am sure you will be a great Club man for them. Will always follow your career.

Being a fantastic clubman and a great 2nds player is where the similarities end.

Tilbrook was as tough as nails, bash and crash. Even tried his hand at gridiron

And though he didn't live up to the hype, he played some decent footy for us in his later years, especially 1973, 21 games, 24 goals 6 Brownlow Votes.

Weideman went to Essendon because he knew he'd get a regular game. Bottom 6 finish this year even worse if Stringer and Wright tank out.

The Weed, did you see that?
What a grab!

Bad grammar’s

It's nauseating to hear the "Weid!!!" cry from the Essendon crowd.

Any comment on JVR's last quarter?

I’m very happy for Weideman. He was never going to make it at Melbourne. A chance of scenery was good for him. Wishing him all the best.

Agreed.  May he play brilliantly in losing sides for the duration of his red and black career

He's always had it - he needs a long run of games to find/produce it. He never was allowed a full season in the 22 to find his game with us. If van Rooyen was the Weid, he would have been subbed and dropped next week. Scott is backing him in and encouraging him to simply go for it.  I always liked him, but in the end the selectors went with other options.

But I can't stand that he chose the Bombers. I hate it that I like the Weid but hate his club and jumper.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
