Following the trade news early today via Zero Hanger  under player changes to date, two unknown demon players were to be transferred to the Adelaide Crows. There were no names , then later in the day the incident disappeared. Does anyone know if Brayshaw is going to get traded , surely we can't play him and Viney play in the one side.

it was probably an old article about Sparrow and Petty there were rumours circulating before they both signed up last month

I like the sound of this post, complemented by the previous post from AF on 7th Nov. It makes very good sense and as such, provides an improved pathway for Harmes as a utility/forward/mid rotating with Petracca. Viney as a pressure forward is the way to go, as well - out of the centre, into the hot zone. All complements well, I'd say. Releases same-team midline congestion, as well as grunt and pace where critical.

God help any opposition who pick up the ball with viney in our forward line!

There are no scoops from Ricky Nixon tonight because he simply doesn’t have any.

His focus this week is what he thinks the likes of Carlton need to do to get Saad and maybe Merrett etc across the line ... what Geelong need to do for Cameron ... where Treloar is headed and can Collingwood trade Stephenson and Cox or dreaming.

He will run through where every club is at tomorrow night starting with the clubs doing the least amount of trading and putting faith in the young players who got 10-20 games in to them this year...and they are Fremantle, Sydney & Hawthorn ... whilst others like Port, Richmond & West Coast have no salary cap room to pull off a big deal with Nth Adel and GCS fighting the old fight of not being destination clubs.

Essendon hold a lot of the cards but need to do some deals early this week or other clubs will walk away. Brisbane have done all they need to do with Daniher and key recontracting of young guns.

GWS are doing an Essendon and saying if you want out get out because we can't build a club of individuals.

The Doggies will go hard to get the best deal from Essendon for Dunkley and use it on Treloar and maybe Cox ... now that could be interesting if they perform better under a different coach.

And Viney

Basically Viney is a Vic.

Todd came here in 1986 and played 12 years or so snd only went back I reckon  fir coaching in SA fir 5 years before he returned to Hawks I think. Then came back to us.

Basically Jack has lived 20 out of 25 years in Vic not SA.And would have been born in Vic in 1994 !

My best guess is that we wanted Isaac Smith for free and to move up the order to take a draft prospect (Finlay Macrae?).  We can't take Brown and then Phillips or Polec with picks, and also move up the order and we think the draft option is preferred to the latter.  Hence trade for pick 43 is a step on the path.

Paying Phillips $600K?? Who has been in charge of their cap and list management, a 5 year old? I’ve an idea how we can get more players in - just back end all contracts! I see no issues for 2-3 years. What could go wrong??

I'd think all clubs do this to some degree.  They know that the TPP has increases built into it.  Back loading is the equivalent of investment 'ponzi schemes' (Eventually you can't pay what is outstanding and the whole thing collapses.  Works great in growing markets but it can quickly go into reverse).

Covid related TPP reductions has brought those plans undone.

Collingwood's problems seem linked to the Beam's trade, apparently at Eddie's behest and the arrival of a new List Manager whose experience was as a player manager so may not be too adept at balancing the numbers.

I'd rather us try get an Essendon 3rd rounder this year and then try move up 26,31, and Essendon 3rd to the dogs first round pick. picks 26 and 31 will end up being late 30s/early 40s, that wouldn't be a great result for us.

Im optimistic we'll strike a better deal than a future 3rd rounder out of the dogs for Hannan but the rest sound very fair

Interesting. i'll take a run at this.

Ben Brown - Mfc 2021 Second round pick & a later pick swap.

Picks 25,  43 and Mitch Hannan - Dogs first rounder - 15?ish (Dogs needing points ) Might need more here but general idea

Pick 15, Brayden Preuss - Giants pick 10 (compo)

Tmac - Bombers - Essendon pick 42

Out: TMAC, Hannan, preuss, picks 25, 43, future second rounder

In: Ben Brown, pick 10, lots of cap space.

(Optimistic but worth a try)

@Patches O’houlihanI like it, I like it. Only thing i'd change is ' Ben Brown, pick 10, lots of cap space and re-signing Clarry' :) that would make me happy!

I'm pretty confident Clarry will sign on for another 2 over the off season :) don't believe we'll get a long term deal, i think we will convince him to hang around until F/A and then if we don't improve we'll lose him.

Yes I think the Dogs will be looking at lots of suitors for their 1st round pick so they can exchange picks to maximize points. It’s going to be an actuary’s dream scenario

Too right! Should have happened far earlier than this current speculation but then again, Goodwin has his ideas .... refusing to budge.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
