Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

As per Tom Browne, Dunkley will request a trade to Essendon. Makes things interesting.

With the NGA a good chance to go pick 1 any pick the dogs get if they trade Dunkley will get eaten up by that.

They are no chance to get Finlay McRae unless they do a live trade on the night

This is why I think, if possible, we should try and bring him in. Keep spreading the profile of our elite mids and with Taylor behind our recruiting, I'd love to give him another first rounder to use on a mid.

Who knows what next year brings. I'd be trading next year's first rounder to get in this year if we think we can land the player we want.

But a draftee in a compromised draft? I'd trade out of next year for a ready-made player - and I'm just going on what is said to be a bumper crop - but would prefer to hold onto our chips. We already have a youngish midfield squeeze, with a number of untested players. In my opinion either we can wait a year for some more midfield talent from the draft, or have the cookies to strike if the likes of say Merrett were to come up on the table again. Love the idea that the club loves Finlay and want to bring him in, but I have to keep reminding myself that he's not Jackson; rather he's an unknown AFL quantity. Pick 12 would just about buy Jackson Macrae.

2x pick 12's might, but one alone certainly would not I can assure you!

Some incredible handball highlights in that package.  Good kick on both sides and great agility. 184cm is not small.

Really? I thought it a slight weakness. Good awareness but poor execution. We all see things differently at times though

If we rate a player high enough it doesn't really matter that it's compromised, providing we think we can land them at our pick.

Let's say for argument's sake that Taylor rated Macrae's talent on par with an 18 year old Clayton Oliver, you'd do whatever you could to get your hands on him.

I would anyway.

Yes indeed. But there's current needs (e.g. no one would really want us to trade for Wines anymore) and part of the response is also forming my opinion based on the available draft footage (which I will openly admit I get wrong just as much or more than I get right). Macrae seems a very balanced player but do you see anything in that footage that screams MFC must-have?

His kicking stands out for me, but it doesn't really matter what we think. If Taylor wants him, I'll trust him. He's got a very good eye for talent.

Also, if they trade out of this years 1st round for a 1st rounder next year, they’ll almost definately fall into points defecit next year and their 1st pick will fall several spots, so I’m not sure if they’ll be keen.

...

@xman97can you or anyone else confirm this? I would assume that their points deficit hits a pick they hold at the end of the 2021 season, not any pick that may be linked to them.

Otherwise clubs would do this all the time: trade out picks, then bid and burn their trading partners.

I can understand that it would apply to any picks they still hold at the end of the 2021 season, because then they can trade them and both parties know the value.

The ability to hit targets and play with composure. His game would be a nice complement to the midfield mix rather than the adding to the surplus of inside bulls we currently have. Looks like his footy awareness is quite good to (have seen him live in his bottom age year).

Is Fin any more unknown than Say Jacko Riv or kossie Or indeed Clarry was before the draft?
interesting to see how we conjure the way to get into the first round indeed the top 9/12!!!

I know highlights are just that, but I will say his highlights are up there with the best I’ve seen. A few long handballs that nailed targets, seemed composed in traffic and overall good use of the ball. ??

Looked a little off to me at first but then I realised it was his running style, he looks like he runs with his head forward a little and hunched shoulders. ?

I think @xman97 means is what happened to Freo this year:  *Fremantle's first pick was adjusted due to a 264.9 deficit from 2019  indicative-draft-order

Their natural pick should be #7 but has slipped to #10.

It is a loophole as a club can trade out its future 1st round pick eg for a top player in the draft and use 'rubbish picks for their academy/FS and go into deficit where the points come out of next years first 'natural' pick.  GWS and Port last year traded out their 2020 first rnd pick so the deficit comes out of the 2020 2nd round pick, as follow (from the article) :

'*Greater Western Sydney's second pick was adjusted due to a 254.2 deficit from 2019.
*Port Adelaide's second pick was adjusted due to a 115.9 deficit from 2019.

The loophole should be closed to stop clubs trading out their top picks then using rubbish picks for academy/FS whether or not they go into deficit.  North did it a few years ago.  Guarantee the dogs will do it this year for a kid who will probably go #1.

This kid is a no brainer. Nothing is ever guaranteed in the drafting process, but he has what we lack and could be the perfect partner to Oliver and Petracca.

looks like he'd be the perfect replacement for Melksham on the HFF and push into the midfield at times.

Agree. He’d be a very good pickup if we somehow trade our picks up to the 1st round (ie. The dogs first round). As a first or 2nd year or development, he’d play outside and be used as a delivery type. Then look to move into more traditional ruck rover midfielder who plays outside-in.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
