It is a thought. Hannan has either been pidgeon holed are a flukey/ flash in and out  sort of forward or he is unwilling to learn to play or suggest he can new positions. He is not going to make it playing the way he does. it relies too much on the ball falling his way as he flashes in and out of play.

Agree MD. Been in the choccie box for the last three years & he's probably done I reckon. Doesn't get enough of the footy for me & too inconsistent to hold a regular spot. With the big guns in Langdon & Tomlinson purposely recruited for the wing & Oscar now coming good, the door seems closed for him.

I think he should be tried at another club.  Plays one great game in 4.

One good games in 6

one great game I have not seen Jontee.  When we don’t need him as back up we will know we have a GF skilled team.

Is that OsCar or OsKar?  the later definitely showed some maturity and poise on the wing. Upwards and Onwards!

Average player who doesn't work nearly hard enough. Averaged just  8 disposals, 2.3 marks, 0.8 goals and 1.7 tackles in 2020. Dropped three times in his last four games this year.

He has had numerous opportunities over the past three years, so if we're going to be ruthless with our list, he'd be a strong candidate for delisting.

We need to bring another wingman in to pair with Langdon.

Polec seems an obvious choice...

I would also look at Phillips but as '@DeeSpencer' tells me Phillips may be too similar to Langdon and we could do with something a bit different. I can see that he has a point there.

...be that as it may Baker is still developing and whether he has any more to give time will tell.

I don't see Hannan filling the spot and we don't have another season to waste trying to find out.

We need to bring someone in.

I suggested this earlier in the year and totally on board with it.

I always like your outside of the box thinking @Pollyanna. I'd target Polec (as @rjay says), try Salem on a wing and keep Baker developing in the background and fighting for that open second wing spot.

I think Hannan will be delisted, because as you say, we have too many medium sized forwards.

This upcoming pre season is a massive one for Salem. I'd attach him to Langdon like we partnered Petracca with Oliver last pre season. Time for Salem to take the next step.

yep. I think injuries have cruelled ,what started out as a really promising career. But given his knee ( who knows what else)  I highly doubt he's going to be able to grow a tank. I like him as a player, but I think we've already seen the best of him.

Agreed.

At his best, he's pretty close, but slightly different in football attributes to Fristch.

Takes a good high mark, on the lead and reads the drop of the ball well with good timing to scoop up the crumbs and pounce on opportunistic goals.  I think he is actually a pretty good set shot for goal and has Fristch covered in that area.

His form has been incredibly patchy over the last 2 seasons, but IF he could recover that 2018 fittness/form, then I think he's better than depth as a half forward.

The worth of a running wingman was seen this year with Langdon.

If Hannan can be developed in this role then he has the attributes (running, marking, kicking if not yet a tank) to fill this role. He will never get high possession counts playing as a HFF so past performance shouldn't coutn against him.

In my world view we need three rotating wingman to maintain pressure, to support the midfielders and to provide a way out for the defenders and a path to the forwards.  I sometimes think that Clarrie would be ideal if not for his value in the centre. He does the running anyhow and one-on-one on a wing would see him dominate.

I would assume that most people would know now that we have a good one that wingman cant really be made from anyone. You need a certain set of base attributes which starts with gut running endurance, repeat sprints and the discipline to maintain your width in situations most players would be drawn to the play. Baker is a chance with another preseason where he should be partnered with Langdon, Bedford has the endurance and repeat rate but unsure if he can find the ball and maybe a touch small. Hannan I dont think has the endurance or focussed discipline to play the role. Unless he agrees to a one year base contract I would delist him. He is the type of fringe player we seem to hang on to for too long.

2019 taught us that it’s very difficult to manufacture a wingman. We tried half the list there and it never worked.

Langdon is a natural outside player because he holds his space and he works unbelievably hard when we do and don’t have the ball.

Lets recruit a natural outside player instead.

The shifting of the magnets approach is not going to take us very far. Every line needs additions/upgrades. Trade in an elite running wingman ffs

Yup....Baker could be a decent option but we need a top liner gut running link up who can finish off the rebound work coming inside 50 on the non-Ed wing.

Find this, land JC, clean out some ordinary chaff and we are deep into finals in 2021.  Possibly beyond.

Can't see him being more than a forward pocket/high half forward, just can't see him running out a game on a wing.

Seen him do ok for a quarter or two at VFL level off HB and in a HB / wing split role but then he'll go missing for the other two et al.

If he struggles to hold down a similar role for 4 quarters at that level, while not impossible, there would have to be a big question mark at the elite one.

A big no from me.  He had his chance to step up after an injury interrupted 2019 and failed badly IMO.  Time to look elsewhere.

If 2020 revealed anything with Burgess on board it was the year that indicated who, of the non rookies, really wanted it.

Unfortunately Hannan didn't step up and as i've said on a number of occasions, is one of the reasons why we often see too much left to too few far too often.

Upgrade needed here.

Will Goody stay true to his word?  Time to get ruthless MFC or another bust looms in 2021.

Jesus Christ at Full Forward would be able to turn water into wine (#1 for i50 conversion) heal the sick (cure mfcss) and give vision to the blind (Turn Goody into a mastercoach)

If we are going to keep him then this is my choice too.

Fritta on the wing.

Hunt up forward.

I'm a bit of a Hannan fan despite his less than stellar year. I'm pretty sure he spent most of the preseason in the rehab group because of a groin injury (after the knee injury) so that makes me query his tank prospects. IIRC he had mini stints on the wing in 2019 (like half the team) but don't recall a noteworthy performance but as Polly says, and I agree, he's footballer and a preseason dedicated to that position may surprise if he can get that fitness base. I'd be happy for him to have a year ahead of others O.O.C

I’d strongly consider moving Melksham to the wing. He has the legs and the distribution.

Struggled to get into games this year but also played some defensive roles, my enjoy the freedom. I think if we shifted him to the wing, Hunt could cover the role up forward.

If anyone doesn’t have the defensive gut running then its Melksham.

That's if he's on our list.

Uncontracted and no certain to get a new deal at all. Plays 1 good game out of 5 and is very inconsistent. Can't continue to carry blokes who barely get a touch for 3 quarters.

Baker is doing well on the opposite side to Langdon, I would also like to see Bedford used on the wing considering it's where he played majority of VFL last year.

Well he actually didn't..

If you'd had watched some of the Casey games last year like i did, you would know that Bedford spent major of his time as a forward pocket. In those games Baker, Stretch and JKH were our lock in wingers at VFL level last year.

Have an ability to give us a kicker at stoppages ala Bontempelli. If he can play a Merrett like role, that will provide us with increased flexibility and diversity. So he can be moved from half back to a wing to the midfield and back again.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
