Well you pretty much said he was off to the doggies? I'm not doubting you mate, but like I said, you've had a lot of misses lately. I still think we should be in the market for Phillips but who knows. Freo are also a chance.

I'll keep an eye on this one.

What have I missed? Trade week hasn’t even started.
I mentioned Hogan would be leaving Freo which he is and we had some interest but getting Brown I dare say stopped is going down that paths

Matera is 28 and doesn't get it enough. He's not what we need at the feet of Brown and Weideman IMO.

We definitely need to bring in 2 more genuine small guys that will be able to help down a place or at least compete strongly for a spit in our forwardline.

Was told yesterday that we are seriously looking at Philips. Originally it was Polec, but now switched

Would the person who told you know?

Been pretty good over a number of years

i wouldn’t put it on here otherwise

I have also tried to get some info from my source, and was told Brown was our number 1 priority.

Pushed my source further and asked about running players and was told the club was having serious discussions around Phillips. Seems that we are quite interested but at the time I spoke to my source, not much contact had been made with the pies or Phillips. This was a few days ago, and I am trying to get more info as we speak.

Surely there's something brewing here with us to not be interested...I hope it ain't Treloar on the wing tho!

Do we, you, or anyone know that we are not interested?

Maybe “we” are just being cagey and professional?

Any other players we sniffing in general?

My sources are unwilling to confirm your speculation

It’s a very good wage for a player of his caliber, he is not exactly a star

True but my post was more about the lack of interest. It is a good salary but not enough to put clubs off I would have thought. He’s contracted but the pies have cap issues so shouldn’t cost much trade wise. $400-500k 3 years and a third rounder could get this done. He fills an obvious need for us.

Any updates on Jordan and his contract?

Cheers

I am assuming list sizes etc are holding things up, but there was a lot of good talk about him throughout the year and nothing now.

Things can change pretty quickly but at this point in time I have it on the best authority possible that Tom Phillips will remain at Collingwood next season.

Tell Tom thanks for the info.

Why have a crack at Phillips when Trealor is available.... I know who I’d rather.

If we can solve a need at a third of the price would be the why.

But obviously you'd be crazy not to go for Treloar if available.

Talk is Collingwood want a top 10 draft pick so that rules us out. Phillips is the player would should be after don't believe for a second Collingwood can keep Phillips when they have so many more to sign.

What's the bet the pivot involves Treloar?

Polec would have required a bit of money from our end, so will Treloar. Phillips less so.

Would love to raid Collingwood for those two.

There's absolutely no way Collingwood can be asking for a top 10 pick when they're actively pushing him out in a very obvious cap squeeze.

I suspect Oskar Baker also sends him his thanks for that info.

If true that they want a top 10 pick then he stays a Pie.

I still think we can get a bargain with Phillips and Brown. They aren’t wanted by their clubs.
Over to you Josh. Time to turn the screws on them.

I would suspect it's a top 10 pick they're after for Treloar, not Phillips? The latter can't even get a game with them.

That’s what I was thinking, no way does Phillips command a top 10 pick. If they can get a pick in the low 20’s that would surely get it done quickly on their end.

Would we have enough to secure Phillips? I've read an article from Matt Rendell saying that Collingwood could move Mason Cox, and if so they are expected to earn $600,000 in 2021 on his back-ended deal, it would have enough money to cover McDonald's contract.

Cause if we offload Tmac's contract, then we can put the money into giving Clarry a new deal. This might be why we're not wanting to do a straight swap for Phillips with Tmac.

I'd rather free up the $ and give Clarry a new contract and then put Salem on the wing instead of Baker.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
