Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think it's a lot to do with Max to be honest mate,

these guys are dominant mids, but i don't think we get anything like the value for Max's dominance that we should, but the reality of Max's dominance is that we set up very aggressively to win clearance and don't give ourselves much room to defend as a result, so if we lose stoppage or they get it to the outside we're under the pump.

Been saying a similar thing for years now. I agree that Max is the best tap-ruck I've ever seen, but that conception allows opposition mids to prepare to counter it from a negating perspective. When a Pedo or Preuss comes in it's back to a 50-50 contest and the pure ball-winning dominance of our mids get to shine. I honestly don't know the solution - but I hope we can come up with a way to capitalise on both having Max and the likes of Trac, Clarry and Viney in the starting midfield.

Its actually very simple, Max just needs to punch the ball forward (allowing us to run towards goal; they alternatively have to gather and turn into our midfielders or dish of to someone heading towards congestion). A couple of these will have them quickly drop the Center behind the ruck,  allowing our midfield to have the numbers advantage for a tap.

If he does that you get hit in the knackers too much. We need the mix of Max and Luke, and it's on the way.

Completely agree, it's funny that whenever max is injured our midfield seems to be more productive clearance wise in my mind. And really that shouldn't be the case, with Max in we should be so much better. Hopefully what you said comes through and we fix it next year (but i doubt it).

This is just a reflection of the pure talent of the midfield i think mate, Oliver and Petracca in particular are special talents that we haven''t seen close to the best of yet.

But this issue needs to be resolved ASAP. if it gets resolved even Max could go to another level again

If it's that simple why aren't we doing it now? Your plan sounds simple and straightforward UB but it seems To ignore  that there are opposition players out there as well.

He is already top 5 midfielders in the comp and arguably our best player of the last 30 years. Coaching isnt holding him back.

Sorry Deanox it is !  How come Burgess has to pick out that he should gain  3 steps and kick The ball. He has looked much better attempting that Since midway through  the season.

Part of the issue is the connection between all parties in the centre and to be frank our clearances with such players is underwhelming and needs to be improved fir us to go to the next level

BTW I love Clarry  but he still has another level to go to if we are to be in the premiership race from 2021 on.

The Cripps rumour is pure BF rubbish. Fremantle fans fantasying (and joking) about a Cripps and Fyfe duo and winning next years GF. Oliver isn’t going anywhere either. People clearly enjoy spreading rubbish rumours, carry on.

I don't think anyone is saying that Oliver will leave this year ET. He's contracted for another year.

But, he's clearly disgruntled and not happy within the club. What that reason be, who knows? I'm not in the belief that its over a stupid BnF placing ( though its an utter joke Viney finished higher then him). I just think he's not happy due to the lack of success of the club and he's getting impatient.

What's even more concerning is that @Chook in Perth has confirmed that this is clearly the case right now that we have one of the best players this club has seen come through our doors, is not happy.

If we have another year of missing finals then I would not be surprised if he requests a trade.

If we have another year of missing finals we will also have a new coach. That may change his view again

I would argue Langdon had a bigger impact than Oliver this year and was not surprised by his higher B&F finish (Viney I am less confident though). Oliver seems to be at that age where he is impatient and frustrated but has not recognised he is coming into the years where he should not be following the pack but leading the way and dragging others along with him. We are coming into the year where this should be Oliver, Trac and Lever’s team, they should be setting not following the culture. They are not the kids anymore they should be showing what is the expected levels of training, focus, game day performance, not just theirs but those around them. The penny dropped for Trac (who seemed just as frustrated a year ago) and I suspect the penny will drop for Oliver in 2021. I would under no circumstances trade him this year whether he openly states he wants out or not.

Viney was better early in the season, Oliver better late. I don't think the B&F placings were that shocking

Did Chook state this in this thread? I must have missed it but I haven't read every page either

I want to put this to rest. We cannot accept anything for Clarry!! Period!! And I say this If we have signed up Viney for 5 years to the detriment of getting Oliver for the same amount of time then that's me Done totally with MFC FOREVER!!

Sorry no idea, but given that most of the rumours are about the pair returning to Perth so that she can get extra support form her family I assume she is.

I will say this now, Oliver's next deal will be his biggest and talk if salary cuts have already begun.

I believe there are rumours floating around and it's more than likely coming from his camp. I don't believe there's anything to the rumours. I believe it's step 1 in getting the best deal for his client.

This happens every year at every club

This is true, However, any other club would be putting time in to assess how big an offer it would take to lure him away! There would be clubs out there I'm sure that would offer him around $850 -$ 900 Grand or more per year for 5 years. Now if that is the case can you see MFC being able to match that??

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
