Oskar Baker pleased by this.

I'm a Baker fan also but feel we still need another outsider eg. Phillips who likes to kick a goal.

1. How good is free agency... &

2. We're far from a destination club once again.

If we had lost out to a bottom 8 club, then yes, you could argue that we aren't a destination club.

But the bloke took the easiest route of all and went to Geelong, who just playing off in a GF.  Can be hard to beat that.

@Dr evil's mail wasnt any different from the rest of insiders here and in the AFL as well. When Dr Evil posted it originally it was early and good intel. And we saw it play out in the media that the "Cats came late" and that "Hawthorn upped their offer". Yes, the double down was probably too much, but I'm happy for him to keep those insider tips coming!

It was his doubling down that has now cost @Dr evil all credibility with any future mail that he purports to have.

He was arrogantly adamant that Smith would be a Demon in 2021 that people were led to believe that a contract had been signed and the club was just waiting for the perfect media cycle window to roll him out.

I absolutely love whispers at this time of year but I've lost all confidence in his inside word. He pushed this one too hard and now has to live with the consequences that he is tarnished goods now.

RIP sweet prince.

Also, [censored] free agency.

Cats are getting Cameron, Smith and Higgins without using a single draft pick. The system is massively broken.

I've said it many times, and I apologise to all for sounding like a broken record, but I hate Geelong with a passion.

I hate Paddy Duckingfield.

I hate Joel Duckwood

I hate the little tip rat Gryan Miers

I hate their fake tan of a coach in Chris Scott

And I hate their bandwagon fans.

I just hate Geelong.

People do change their mind. I don't blame the Dr at all.  I am happy to get info during trade week as I have a boring life.

Do you live there though? Only then can you truly feel the full force of hate.

GWS have made noise that the will match bids for Cameron and Higgins will need a trade. (Your point stands about free agency though.)

'tip rat' hahaha love it. True

Same, one of my favourite recent memories was being there when we knocked them out of the finals in 2018. Pains me to see them up there, and us down here, and I don't know how they keep attracting talent to keep the train moving, especially with Scott in charge, but gee I'd almost love to see us square off against them in a GF very soon and cause a Scott meltdown.

This is just my get feel, but reading everything that's come out in the past week, we may have cooled on Smith with other opportunities presenting themselves. Which is why we may not have pushed back when Geelong and Hawthorne made their late plays for him.

This is also my view. Trade options don't always present early on.

I’d heard as far back as Monday that he’d signed at Geelong but wasn’t allowed to ruin the reveal. #ETthetradebreaker. #ETdoesitagain.

Doc's been great, but we all know who #1 is.

I'm somewhat relieved, a 3-years contract was too long.

Exactly how I feel.  I think it's a blessing in disguise.

Mate, i totally understand people pointing out i got this one wrong. but surely you understand things change in silly season. as of 3 days ago when i last posted this my source of information was very confident he was coming. that's how quickly things change.

Not a huge fan of being called a clown though, i have been pretty happy to cop getting this wrong, and i've been posting here for a long time. i don't really think name calling is needed. it's all a bit of fun.

Sadly I feel you have dug your own grave here mate.

I personally like the info you have shared with us but perhaps your wording should have been a bit different.

Big difference between  "I am very confident he is coming" and "Smith will 100 percent be a demon"

People on here can be very harsh on posters who share info that doesn't come to fruition.

Anywho, I hope this doesn't deter you from sharing info you may receive.

We can’t even attract a 32yo with a 3 year deal vs 2 from the cats???

Correct. He apparently wants to chase another premiership, and believed that was more likely at the Cats, even with less time and less money on offer.

Cats get Cameron, Higgins and Smith as free agents without needing to use a single draft pick. Mean we're over here having to trade two first round draft picks for an out of contract Jake Lever ? Free agency is broken!!!

Lol! Issac Smith will be a demon in 2021.

Ah well, guess we start getting excited about Brodie Smith now hey? Has he ordered the polo yet?

Would much rather have inside information provided to us that didn't eventuate, than no information at all.

Please don't be discouraged Doctor! You've single handedly been worth at least half of the value of the forum posts in the past few weeks :)

No need, it's 'the sharing economy'. Just use the designated "Smith polo', should fit okay:

  • Isaac Smith 188cm, 83kg,
  • Brodie Smith 189 cm, 78 kgs.

I’ve got a fun challenge for you. Find me a poster, journo or football commentator with a 100% ratio? Just one? I probably didn’t need to double down but if this is the standard you’re holding not sure most people can even trust their parents.

Imagine if we only end up with Josh Jenkins and a couple of picks in the 40s this year for Preuss and the McDonalds.

How many of you think the Jordan Lewis trade was a success? For mine, it was largely a waste of time. Anything he might have done for culture was countered by him doing all of [censored] all on the field for three years, and was even one of our worst in the 2018 finals series which was one of his selling points at time of trade. Fantastic player in his prime but getting him at all wasn't worth it in my view. I have the same view here.

He might have it tucked away somewhere. Maybe he can wear it when he’s feeling like his alter ego. Demon smith

  • GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road for their 3rd interstate game in 4 weeks as they face a fit and firing Crows at Adelaide Oval. With finals now out of our grasps what are you hoping from the Dees today?

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
