The fact we ran so hard late disgusts me. Deliberately pick and choose. This club doesn't deserve us.

Yep, hard to defend anyone tonight. Pathetic effort from the players, to the coaches, to the selections.

But there was no system tonight. And why throw the magnets around after being so consistent on team defence all year?

The players looked tired. The guys they brought in gave us very little. Cerra and Brayshaw gave our mids a lesson. Embarrassing. They were cleaner, they used the ball better, they used the right side of the ground more often and it all seemed too hard for us.

Max seems to be playing injured, but sides appear to have worked him out. He's a good intercept player in defence playing by himself, but very ordinary in the ruck.

It's a funny old season. We looked certain to make finals a week or so ago. Now we'll almost certainly miss and if we do, Goodwin should probably go.

They're a dysfunctional team, players who play the individual game and just don't link in and work together.  A few who bash and crash in, a few who chase kicks....no structure, no discipline, no leadership, no game plan.  Shown up by an opposition team who had all of those qualities tonight.

There's 8 players in the team who are VFL players at best, that's another issue.  The list has some talent at the top (but who do their own thing) but the bottom half are garbage.

Totally agree multitude of issues including a list of players who are not AFL standard. Putting aside actual ladder position after a seven year rebuild we are only better than Crows and Kangas. Long suffering supporters deserve better.

Very poor team whenever the conditions are poor. Out bodied, out thought, out played out of finals.

So true. And we never adapt. We played much dumb football tonight.

May must be starting to think he’s made a horrible mistake.

I also feel for Langdon. Came for success, I wonder if Freo would take him back? Haha

Glad he said Anb. Bloke should have been culled 2 years ago. Sums up the club.

We signed him to a 2 year deal last year.

That's debacle list management at its best.

One of the most astounding decisions he's ever made.  We could play better as a key forward than he can.  He didn't even look like it, and he isn't mobile enough to get up the ground to give us a target.

My guess as for their thinking was Pruess would bash packs and bring it to ground for Bedford, Hunt, Kozzi, ANB etc to mop up. Problem being Pruess is a spud, we didn't select for the conditions and our fwd50 entries are worst in the league.

Outhustled by 14th and 15th on the ladder. Looked to have the requisite intensity for the last 5 minutes. Bizarre.

Forget Goodwin...those blokes got beat by a group who wanted it more than them.

This is so spot on. Something is wrong.

The freo boys wanted that win more than us. That was so clear from the start.

So many half hearted attempts at tackles. So many half hearted chases. As you say so little intensity.

For mine only langdon, trac  may, hibbo, viney, fritter, Oliver, max, rivers and maybe lever played with the required intensity.

And of that lot only langdon  fritter and maybe viney played well.

I could pick out any number of players but one stood out for me. Weideman. His effort, other than in marking contests, was simply appalling and not acceptable. Trotted around, didn't tackle, didn't play wirh any intensity.

17 changes in 3 games. Something is wrong.

The only positive I can see is Goody found his bottle of water. Half way through the last quarter you see himm with phone in hand, he looks puzzled, slightly annoyed. he goes to speak but decides against it. Two minutes later you can see he discided to act. he stood up and got a bottle of water. Shades of the scene from the Castle.

Time to pull the band aid off & find another coach as he can’t fix the same issues for 2 seasons!  New fitness coach, healthy list no excuses! We lack steel & mental toughness and another kick in the guts to its members & supporters.

So obviously the club has severely overated its list. I have as well. The depth is poor and development of low draft picks non-existent

Sure we have Gawn, Oliver, Viney, Petracca, May and Langdon. Then second tier players like Salem, Melksham, Lever, Fritta, Weed, HArmes, Hibberd, JAckson, Rivers, , etc

But the bottom layer of Bedford, Pickett, Sparrow, Smith, Baker, ANB, AvB, the Wagners, Spargo, OMac, Hannan, etc.  seem to be no where near it.

I'm not renewing if he is still coaching next year.

I called the club last week and took my membership of auto-renew. I told them if Goodwin goes I'll put it back on.

Someone mentioned that Pert gets reports like this. Call the club and let them know you won;t re-sign if Goodwin is there. Money talks.

Well Said Wise

i haven’t trusted him since he walked away  from the 2018 Preliminary Final

As a young Coach he should have studied every Frame of what Meth Coke did to us in that First Half

But Simon knew better....

Well guess what...

The big losses in 2018 (Hawks etc) convinced me

We don't tackle very well, we don't man up too well, we don't really chase, we have terrible foot skills, terrible decision making and handball skills and no great marking players. We have a few who have a crack when the ball is in their area, but really apart from that, we are deficient in every other area of the game.

Tackling and chasing are mental and the c grader type players (Bedford, Baker etc..) at least should do that well, unfortunately ours just run around like stoned beagles and when they get the ball kick as well as stoned beagles!

Agree. Not a big fan of everything he says and I wish he did something to help rather than just take pot shots, but he's not wrong.

The thing is people don't like ugly truths.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
