Prefer Melksham stays in rather than Fritsch

Fritsch has been horrible, likely there was more to just being late to training... If not, just a useless [censored] which explains a bit

Smith wasn’t bad. Papley with 0.2 you would take but our defence felt out of whack. It works better with May, Lever, Tomlinson as the talls.

And that’s the gist of it. Smith is too unpredictable and he cannot read the play. He is basically Frost but more attractive to look at.
He throws the back line out of whack and leaves May and Lever too worried about covering too many holes.

I have no idea why Lockhart didn’t play this week but with Jetta seemingly coming to the end of his career we need to develop that replacement small. Smith ain’t it.

We look best with May and Tomlinson at FB and CHB and Lever as the third man up. Hibbo was a big loss but he’s also at the end of his career. We keep throwing all sorts of players at half back and they don’t seem to work.
More so than getting another winger I would look at getting someone with zip and good disposal to play that half back role. We are woeful at transitioning the ball back.

The way we play we need speed, yet goody brings in the [censored] lanky baby giraffe Oscar.

Thought more about it, our forwards can bring the ball to ground, Weid and brown do the job, when it hits the deck it just gets strolled out of there. I want a fast team this week.

Smith is always the whipping boy but Viney and Jones get a pass because he is hard at it and gee we must get him to 300 well that will win us a flag.

Its not Nathan's fault here. The club should never have given him a new deal and wer'e reaping the outfall of that.

Fckd if I know.  Only the devil knows what masterstroke Goodwin will come up with at selection.  No doubt he'll overthink it.  Either way it has to be that Omac never plays again.  He is absolutely the worst footballer I have ever seen in the afl.  Perhaps in any level of football.  No joke, he offers nothing.  Slow in action, slow to respond, timing is mostly appalling.  He is just slow.

Jones brain fades the week earlier were not as bad as his decision making in quarter 2 yesterday.  To use his non preferred to enter into fifty when these were scarce anyways was unforgivable.  To use his left again for a short dinky pass when he was in range just mindboggling.  His body language is atrocious.  I blame goodwin for this as well.  He has [censored] him up.

Viney is just dumb.  Has to get out of the midfield.  He'll just be dumb wherever you put him.  But then again, he has no right side ability whatsoever.  Harmes is lost.  That unwillingness to run through the middle summed that up.

These blokes are tired of Goodwin.  There is no love for the guy.  Its friggin obvious.  He has no rapport with them down on the bench (when he is there).  Very little support for him comes out any of their mouths for him now as well apart from the standard bullshid that any young player will offer up about a coach.

I dont have a clue.  Don't even care.  We just need some matchwinners in the next 3 consecutive games.  We need to get lucky.  It has come down to that.

Where in god's name is Bennell and farmer.  Is Nev really that bad.

And ANB can pack his bags as well.  He is, always has been, always will be, just an average player.  He does nothing. How embarrasssing.

We have to get lucky Demonlanders.  How desperate and sad.

But I'm not gonna say we are joke of a club.  We just need an experienced coach.  Not some impressive power pointing presenting , new age, wokish, inexperienced first year coach.  A coach that keeps it bloody simple.  Its a ridiculously overthought game these days, particularly by the likes of blokes like Goodwin.  From his selection to his game day tactics (or lack of) to his lack of emotion shown, his lack of animation in the coaching box, his appointment of a failed coach as his assistant.  He takes one step forward, and three back.

Rant over.  Sorry

Along with Jones, Gus and Harmes also chances to miss on Monday with injury/soreness.

Pretty much agree with this, except for ANB. I just don't get what he gives us. He was an instant in this week and other than the goal was largely unsighted (unless you count him running around in circles).

Melksham is tricky. I think he needs a spell as he's looked out of sorts for a long time. But I honestly think we're a better team when he's on some. He's one of the few who actually pass to a lead i50 rather than just bomb it in. He's a smart footballer, but prone to being lazy - needs a reality check, but I prefer him in the team in the long term.

Fritter, I'm not sure what happened to him. He's way off. He used to be a pretty good kick, what the hell?

Overall I'm against the deck chair approach, recycling through the same guys, we need to stick with a relatively stable team if we want these guys to gel. Baker and Bedford are not the answers, not long term anyway. I mean they have been ok in brief stints. If we think they are the answer, we need to commit to them, rather than play them, then go nah, and replace with the same guy we dropped the week before.

and zero imagination from the coach. Put him in the ruck, drop gawn up forward. anything.

What worries me about the Weid is his lack of endeavour. Whilst the ball is not coming in well you can still chase, harass and tackle. He did none of these. Him and Fritter just hang an arm out and let the oppo just walz past them. Throw Melk in that also.

Refuses to chase or lay a tackle does someone have access to his season tackle count. Late in the last quarter last night in our forward pocket Allir gathered the ball and Fritsch ran past him rather than tackle him head on WAP effort

Season over, so need to get some games into Baker. I would be delisting Bedford, Chandler and Dunkley but, if there is any doubt, this is the week to play them. Hibberd presumably plays if fit, and surely T.McDonald is in our best 22.

Melksham and Salem need a kick in the rear. There is no value to playing any of Hannan, Vandenberg, Hunt, Neal-Bullen, Wagner and Brown at this point of the season. Does Jetta get a farewell game?

I have had a bit more of a rethink on this team. I think T-Mac deserves to play this game and coming off a two-match break he will be fresh. He'll still be slow, but not as slow as normal. Further to this he deserves to play in what is our last stand for the year. He deserves to go down with the ship, so to speak, or rise up for our next challenge if we manage to turn it around.

From the sounds of it Angus and ANB may be a tad too sore to play, so T-Mac and hopefully Harley should get the gigs - clearly Goody got jack of Harley's lack of pressure, but I think he may just have to appreciate the clever offence that Harley brings and as I've said previously, the indigenous guys tend to find an extra yard in hotter conditions.

Finally on Smith. Unlike Uranus and the other haters here I am still frustrated that he has played just 14 games, whereas O-Mac has been gifted 81 and preferred to Lynden Dunn (now too old) and Frosty. As someone who has seen lots of training sessions (in the old days mind you when Gosch's Paddock was the go), I can tell you Smith looks the part, but not as a running defender. He is a close checking, hard-tag type of player who this year has muscled up and as a result can play on bigs and smalls alike. The problem for him is that Goody doesn't want to invoke a hard tag on anyone, because he's caught up in zone defences and clean ball movement (that's his aim, even though it didn't look that way against Sydney).  The obvious match-up for Smith this week is Fyfe and if that means he's in the centre square, so be it. But my guess is that Goody will play Smith as a fourth tall down back and want him to provide run and that's just not his strength and he becomes a waste of space and we can queue Uranus for another round of Smith-bashing.

Of our 10 or so delistings at season's end, there will be two who get a chance at another club - one is Smith and the other is Jayden Hunt. And why is that - because they bring something a little different to the table. And as with Eggplant, you just have to know the best recipe to bring out their best.

Question for anybody

We are playing at Cazaly's stadium again,   does that mean we stayed up in Cairns ?

or did we fly back down then up again.     How much did that cost compared to staying up there   Does anyone know   or even care anymore ?

To confirm Fritschs stats. 2020: tackles 15 from 13 games.

But includes 2 games totaling  8 tackles.

Lots of zero tackles stats in many games.

In fact his tackles averages are 2018: 3, 2019: 2 and now 2020: 1.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
