I think Brayshaw adds more than Viney does in the middle personally.

He creates space whereas Viney barges through it.

Let’s keep it on the level. North are abysmal. The amount of time and space we had in that last quarter especially was ludicrous. We should have run over them and we did.

It’s very nice to have some genuine A graders to watch every week though in Clarry and Trac.

Lever continuing his solid form.

And always nice to see a Demonland whipping boy have a good game. Well done Spargs ?

Cracking performance. Only the most churlish supporter could find anything negative about that (ok, perhaps the poor conversion).

Not sure whether we had a player who didn’t win their position. Thought Spargo was fantastic - especially leaving his man and bursting through the line in the third quarter for the long handball. Challenge for him is to back it up. Luke Jackson could legitimately be the best player in the competition in 5 years.

I’ve maintained all along that our form line is not that bad - 5 losses (2 by less than a goal) all against top 6 sides. Pretty good really. We’re beating the sides we’re supposed to.Having said that, it was a performance against a dispirited and depleted outfit. Let’s see that level maintained against the Pies and I’ll be happy

Ok I know nth virtually had no bench in that final quarter but we still had to beat them.

Seriously how good was that final quarter. Just goal after goal.

Didn't even notice the umpiring in that 2nd half.

I must admit going in without gawn and viney I was nervous but Jackson did so well in the ruck and Oliver and Petracca were just awesome.

Spargo did some nice things and very courageous of him to go against the flight of the ball with Daw coming the other way.

McDonald came into the game. Our % got a boost and we are 9th.

Just straighten up our goal kicking and we will be ok. No injuries and a great win. It was a good night.

Jackson was awesome. McDonald did his job but goes for Gawn next week. Spargo quiet but popped up a couple of times in the last when we ran away.

Completely unfair. Which game were you watching mate? Spargo was involved in pretty much every Melbourne scoring chain for the match. Just wow.

Good win by the boys and have won 2 games we were expected to win.
Next week is a huge game against the pies and hopefully we don’t get smashed like we did against port.

We still have a lot to improve and next week the pressure will come in the game big time and will be interesting to see how we cope with it

Tracc nearly in the elite category but goalkicking finishing is the icing on the cake

Confidence factor now is huge. We are seeing a huge star develop here.

Someone better start the 'Will Tom Sparrow win the Rising Star nomination this week' thread.

Langdon has a lot of good football instincts but by god he is a shocking kick

Langdon did a number of good kicks. The shocking kick thing is massively overplayed and is nothing but confirmation bias.

He kicks at full pace, which is pacier than everyone else’s version of full pace. There will be the odd shank.

I was happy for Spargo , thought he was a very good linkman
Dogga and Kozzie are going to be stars .

Petracca would have to be top three or four in the Brownlow.

Brayshaw stood up.

Fritsch could have kicked 6

Spargo was quality effort and connection all game.

Strange isnt it? Different perspectives but agreed Sparticus was slaying it.

Nobody should get ahead of themselves yet. there is every chance we won’t show up next week against the pies because we’ll have fresh legs and have the odds behind us.

These are the bottom 2 teams by along way. We haven’t beaten anyone of substance just yet. Been beaten by every team we have played in the top 6.

ive been sucked in before this year. Won’t happen again.

GREAT WIN to the boys ......you can only beat what is in front of you. It was a clinical display and one with a knockout punch!

Petrac best on ground and another 3 votes and today he became the brute without any help from Gawn  and Viney.

He has stamped himself for A A honours.

Don’t forget pies play in Adelaide Tuesday then fly to Brisbane to play us with 4 days break while we get a decent 1 now so big chance to roll them

I'm struggling to find any post match stuff on KAYO.

Dunstall trying to be funny is like watching Stephen Hawking attempt the Decathlon in the Olympics.

Throw in the comedic timing of Andrew Gaze and it's like sitting through a major surgery without so much as an aspirin to kill the pain.

Probably guilty of a bit of confirmation bias myself.

It's not something you can turn on or off, it's the way our brain has programmed itself to work. Can lead to poor decisions, but overall, minimises risk.

Great to see Lever back to near his best.  Over the length of his contract he'll prove a very astute piece of recruiting. Petracca was his now usual dominant self. Very impressed with Hannan's start.  He led well and contested super hard aerially. He faded but started with great intensity.

Was good to see Byron watching on in the stands.......

BRING ON THE FILTH !

Jackson, Kozzie, Pickett, Sparrow.

Injecting some serious talent into our side once again.

Spargo was back to his best. Kept it simple and used the ball well. Courageous going in for that ball against Daw and bounced up like nothing happened.

Lever was our best backman by a mile. Kept everything in check.

I also thought Tomlinson was good. He rarely wasted the footy and gave us some good drive.

Langdon is a ridiculously hard worker. His running ability and workrate to create space and option on the outside cannot be faulted.

Petracca, Oliver, Brayshae.. all simply brilliant.

Hands up who think our midfield functions when Gus is in there full time instead of Viney?

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
