Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I thought all FD people had to be advised by the end of August if they were not required the following year. This was to ensure they had the best chance of getting a job the for the following year. Is this still correct ?

Correct, re August on advice on employment which would be kept quiet and out of the media.  But iirc the contracts expire end of October so one would think the club would issue a statement thanking those that are going.

Of course it could all be held up while Pert finishes the review.  But I would hope we hear soon.

Serious question. So if they weren't advised by the end of August and we now finish them up, are they to be paid extra? Or does the MFC cop a plenty from the AFL. What I cannot imagine is if assistant coaches were told it is all over guys the the info would not now be out.

I don't know what happens if they weren't told by end of August re extra payment.

Re your last sentence.  It scares the living daylights out of me if we are holding onto all our assistant coaches.  Some have to go.  I'd be very surprised if they don't know who they are.

As far as I can tell, only GCS, Freo and Hawks have announced significant changes to coaching panel.  The rest are yet to come so its all very quiet.

I understand they would be paid till end of October. What happens if the deadline passed and they are not told then susequently after the end of August they are then told not required what happens?

Time to get Mark "Choco" Williams into a role at the Melbourne Football Club.

As I mentioned on another thread, with Sam Radford now stepping down as coach of the Casey Demons in the VFL this is the perfect opportunity to approach Mark "Choco" Williams.

We can then look to offer Mark "Choco" Williams the combined role of head coach of the Casey Demons VFL side and also make him head of development for the Melbourne Football Club. I think this is a great opportunity and I hope that the Demons  make this offer to Mark "Choco" Williams as I would love someone with his football IQ and his quality character around the Melbourne Football Club.

Development has been a massive issue for the Demons over the past 10 to 15 years and me MUST get this problem addressed. I am confident that Mark "Choco" Williams is the man for the job.

That would be the mad Choco Williams who decided out of spite that he would hold a press conference and announce that his assistant coach Dean Bailey would be Melbourne's next coach.

The mad Choco Williams who in his greatest moment as the siren rang making him a Premiership Coach could only think of having a go at the Club's main sponsor.

The mad Choco Williams who has burnt off a series of minor clubs which were the only places he could get a gig.

I don't think so. The days of getting a mad firebrand into the place are long gone.

During yesterday's AFL Trade Radio segment "AFL Exchange", Mitch Cleary said that Alan Richardson will be taking on a part head of football role as well as head of coaching role, whilst Mahoney would be taking on a role "in the wider footy department", including list management.

Truly hope this doesn't mean they are going to move Jason Taylor. Isn't Mahoney responsible for List Management now. Look where that's got us.

I don't have any problems with our list management. 6 years ago we had a vfl list. To drag us up to the current level is a tough job when you are a small club with no success.

Agreed. However, there have been a series of very poor list management decisions made over the past few years which appear to have eaten up a lot of salary cap space which has left us out of the conversation in pursuing a series of A and B list players. Look at what StKilda have achieved the last few years and Carlton the last couple of years.

Yes another change to Godwin’s personnel.

Sam Radford has also decided / continues to go to full time teaching and so has stepped down from the Casey role.  He will be doing Opposition Analysis/strategy/education work as a part time role.

I’d like to see someone like Jared Rivers back as Casey coach. I heard him talk about the game in 2019 and he seemed very astute and decisive about modern day footy.

And I don't remember Carlton or Saints playing  in A Prelim Final or winning more games than lost for 3 out of 4 last seasons.

Apparently we can start expecting a bit more news in this area the next few days or so.

The coaches are having the review findings presented to them along with the changes to staff and structure tomorrow.

Haven't heard anything yet about who might come in, I would guess it's being kept very quiet out of respect for those that are being moved on.

Not really interested in that Prelim any more. Unfortunately not relevant to the last two years. So you're happy with this season because we barely won a few more games than we lost?

As for Saints and Carlton. I'm talking about the future not the past. Lets talk at the end of next season. We started our rebuilds way before them and Saints have sailed past us. On the basis of this year there's every chance Blues will pass us next year if we are treading water. Lions and Port have also already sailed past us. This comp waits for no one.

So Goodwin survives and has assistants changed around him to give him all the support he needs again.

Well guess what Goody, no more excuses, no more trying to fix the f50/ midfield connection, it needs to work in 2021 or there is the door.

Last chance saloon.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
