Traca

Langdon

6 Viney - kept fighting and chasing all night and almost got us across line late.

5 May - Huge factor on Hipwood who killed us last time.

4 Gawn - scragged and maimed but kept trying his darndest

3 Oliver - A couple of woeful early kicks but his workrate was amazing

2 Lockhart - Clean when others weren't.ย  Intercepted courageously. What a game

1 Lever - Smart all night, even though he was less prominent than May.

ย

Gawn was definitely in our best 6 tonight.ย  Position by position he was the only midfielder who wasn't beaten by his Brisbane counterpart over the entirety of the game.ย  Neale, Lyons, Zorko, McLuggage pretty much had their way tonight. Whilst it wasn't one of Max's stellar performances he was very good again.ย  Viney's effort was outstanding after half time and Oliver had his moments as well, despite some less than average disposal early. Tracc played just a game by his now lofty standards, just the one mark and no score. But as a group they lowered their colours.ย  I'll be really interested in the coaches view of this one.ย  I reckon a defender or two might pop up.

Not sure I agree with this. If you win the tap out but we lose the clearance then your effectiveness must be in question.

And for a ruckman if you only take three marks then I don't see how you feature in the votes ahead of guys that won their positions like Lever, May and probably Melksham...

Yesย but there are 6 votes aren't there?ย  I agree May, Lever and Melksham were in the best 6 too. My point was that Gawn clearly wasn't beaten by his opponents and provided our midfield first use.ย  I think you'll find Goodwin agreed with me on this point in his presser.ย  Our mids were too fumbly and when the ball got loose the Brisbane mids tore us a new one.ย  That is not Gawn's fault.

Round 7 is here, with the ANZAC commemoration games taking centre stage. Who are you tipping this week, and which results would be most favourable for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competitionโ€™s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.

Before Sunday, the last time the Brisbane Lions had walked onto the turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, they celebrated the pinnacle of the sport - an AFL premiership secured in emphatic fashion for the second consecutive year.

From the outset, the Casey Demons lacked any spring in their steps. They were out-hustled and out-bustled and finally outplayed by the Brisbane Lions by 38 points on their home turf in perfect conditions at Casey Fields.
