Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Preuss is injured so he wont be going.

So in taking 33, does that mean the end of any sort of match practice till the full squad is back together?

We'll effectively be be splitting our scratch match team in half with the 7 or so non-injured players staying in Melbourne and the other 7 that are in the hub, but not named in the 22 + 4 emergencies.

Viney is going. If he wasn’t we would have heard by now given he’s our vice captain.
You maybe right re: older players not being senior like Wagner or Preuss. Although we would need Preuss for insurance if Gawn gets injured.
Jones is the one who may have decided to stay back. Can’t blame him. He should be playing. If he can’t crack the team in our current horrid form why bother wasting time in the hub away from the family?

Why should he be? He was done last year, and has gone backwards this year.

Replace Jordan and ANB with Bedford and Dunkley and I think you have it right.  If one of the players in Viney, Jones or Jetta don’t go for family reasons then Jordan and C Wagner are next in line.  I personally think the whole group minus injured players should have gone up to at least have the team morale improved a little and avoid a divide within the club. Even on Survivor no one likes to be left behind in the reward challenge. I note most other clubs are taking their whole group.

NSW has closed the border to all Victorians effective midnight tomorrow night.  Closed to all Melbournians midnight tonight.

The AFL had planned to 'pause' the season after round 10 and bring Vic teams home.

The season post round 10 is in serious jeopardy.

And, if the club thinks it may need any of the players left behind it needs to get them and families out asap.

Viney is going with with and child. The 33 limit is to allow wives and families to go. It would appear that the number taken to the hub is capped. Also note the family are in lockdown and confined to quarters so to speak so it is hardly ideal.

Meanwhile, Melbourne on Sunday night took a group of families to their NSW hub - Jack Viney travelled with his partner Charlotte and nine-day-old baby Mila - while a host of fringe players stay at home.

The struggling Dees have reportedly left Wagner brothers Josh and Corey back-up ruckman Braydon Preuss, among others, in Melbourne to continue training with coaches.

AFL teams head into hubs

IMO, staying behind would be: Hore, KK, Preuss, Nietschke, Petty, Baker, Bradtke, Wagners x2, Chandler, Jordon, Sparrow.

Quarantine Station at Manly would not be the worst. Been there for a conference and it is good. Nice, relaxed feel and no distractions.

North Head Manly surrounded by the national park with the great vista of Sydney Harbour in the background. The team can lick their wounds and re-group. Maybe Tammy Roos can be co-opted to assist with the spiritual healing?

Wonder if Angus Brayshaw is going up there or is in Perth. According to the Age today he polled voted in the Crows vs Dockers game.

Can someone get behind the paywall to see who wasn't on the plane.

Demons players including Jack Viney, Jake Lever, Tom McDonald, Nathan Jones and Jake Melksham travelled with their families.

Jack Viney’s wife Charlotte only gave birth to daughter Mila Grace in the last fortnight.

But coach Simon Goodwin confirmed after the 27-point loss to Melbourne the club would leave a group behind to ensure the club’s focus was on winning games of football.

Players including Braydon Preuss, Oskar Baker, Josh Wagner and Corey Wagner have been left behind to conduct intensive coaching with several assistant coaches.

The Demons chose the players on their list that were closest to senior selection for the next batch of five games over 32 days.

The Demons left Harley Bennell, Mitch Brown and Sam Weideman out of their side against Richmond despite the club’s continued forward connectivity issues.

They played in a scratch match against Richmond over the weekend at Punt Road.

And while Goodwin will not tip the side on its head there will be intense pressure to play Bennell and one of those key forwards.

The Demons cannot score more than 10 goals so far this year, having cobbled together scores of 51, 54, 44 and 52 points.

They are at 1-3 with a make-up game against Essendon to come, and a loss to the Giants would heap more pressure on them given their expectations of being a premiership contender.

Weideman's photo is in today's paper (The Age) showing him as part of the squad. (Actually, it shows him kissing his partner goodbye). So he's one of the additions.

The other way to look at this is that those who have been left behind must be a fair way behind. Whether that's because of injury or form, probably doesn't matter. The point is, their papers had effectively already been stamped for the next 5 weeks. For those who haven't been injured, that's got to be a strong hint they won't be around in 2021 when it appears that list numbers will be reduced.

may as well not bother training the way they are playing

Indeed, however its not often we get to see them here so i may try and see what training they do attempt. There are not many decent AFL grounds they could use near Manly, possibly middle head.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
