I’ve got no idea what goodwins obsession with Smith is. He isn’t a footy player. May and lever were shocking. Mcdonald didn’t half a contest.

Play him forward Goodwin has NO idea!

It's seriously concerning that we couldn't wrestle back the momentum at any point. The signs were there in the second quarter and we just didn't respond. 1.2 in the second half in an indictment. A hollow victory.

Sorry but putting down a team when they are 7 goals up for the sake of it and constantly running with it is not commentating. He is a grade A [censored].

Well Lyon is in an awkward position.  But I don't think I've ever heard such biased commentating from all of them.  Fair enough to barrack for a comeback (even against a poor team like us), but not once did they discuss what Melb could/should do or even hang on.  Just how many Carlton supporters are there that they need to suck up to?

Come back Frosty. All is forgiven.?

Trade Lever or May for him?

It was if we substituted an new team and totally different game plan after the first quarter. Far too many players had little or no effect. The first quarter gave us hope that we were back as a team, then the second and subsequent quarters reaffirmed that no the dees were back to their 2019 form. Does not give me confidence that we are going to have a good year

Sorry but I don’t think we lost anything in Frosty going, thought he played well last night but very up and down.
not the difference in us going forward.

and not for the hawks either !

I'd be less embarrassed if I was diagnosed with Canine syphilis.

That was pathetic, we need at least an eight goal lead to be comfortable.

The lack of composure in the front half still kills us, we stop when we should play-in and play-in when we should stop.

Tom McDonald is cooked.

Jake Melksham is cooked.

Goodwin has no idea what he’s doing.

Smith should never be in the back half again.

ANB was very good.

Hunt was very good.

Rivers is an absolute beauty.

Lever and May aren’t what we paid for.

Once Carlton worked out Gawn we were done.

Petraccca is a star.

Absolutely, fully agree.

I prefer to be angry after a win than angry after a loss (Confucius)

It’s a good thing those waiting for Tom McDonald to come good aren’t holding their breath.

You didn't watch Gold Coast in round 1 then.

Round one was too long ago !!

and too disappointing to remember.

Goodwin

Is

A Fraud.

That was disgusting on par with the Gold Coast game last year

But I fail to see how it's on Goodwin? The players came out with intensity and pressure in the first quarter then slacked off thinking the job was done. That's on the players not Goodwin. This had been going on for decades, doesn't matter which coach we have.

Disappointed in McDonald... he gave us very little. Disappointed in Smith he made several poor decisions to fly without influencing the outcome. Disappointed in Fritsch conversion. Very happy with Rivers... a real draft find! Petracca the difference. Hunt and ANB justified selection. Very Happy that Harley got through game. Max was solid. Clayton was good.

We need a key forward that can mark the ball.

Of course we didn't lost anything in Frosty going.  Anyone with sense can see that.

Frost was sh@t last night, 1 less trun over king

Why in the heck was Jetta playing on McGovern???

totally undersized down back and matchups all over the place, someone take control!

And to see Goodwin laughing and smiling after the game made my blood boil.
harden up Melbourne FFS!

My beer tastes funny.

So how did our 3 key backs go tonight?

I was amazed how well the first quarter went and then Carlton came to play and made it a contest.

I don't like our structure and it showed today that we don't have a leadings tall forward and Fritsch is not a key position player. The Carlton talls started to dominate as the game progressed cos they don't get shorter. Seriously at one stage Nev was minding McKay.  At the other end we continually got out marked in the contest by Weitering and co and then the run off half back to a leading tall forward made us look  ordinary.

There were a lot of skill errors and Smith has to learn NOT to fly for everything down back. Rivers was a revelation and I love his run and balance. We cannot expect Jackson to be a marking target up forward and T Mac os the only tall key forward looked out of sorts and chasing tail. At one stage Hunt was playing full forward.

The positives are Max was dominant and in a good contest with Pittonet. Trac was everything we had hope he would be, strong clean and polished. Rivers was impressive, Bennel showed poise and class on limited minutes, Clarry is still a ball magnet and the wingmen in Langdon and Tomlinson show what was desperately missing from last years midfield.

A very ugly, heart attack inducing win

So what you're telling me is, because our backs didn't click today, we need to get Frost back?

Righto.

If we happen to fluke a couple more wins in this manner again.
Then we will think Goodwin can coach.
and justify him going on in 2021.
at this stage I blooody well hope not!

think we need Yze    ASAP

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.
