Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why on earth would they consider a best of 3 grand final series this year when they'll be lucky to sneak in 5 weeks of footy at the back end of the year.

The season will end up being a glorified Preseason comp with the winner having a giant asterisk next to their name.

I think he is right and that the AFL have been handed an opportunity.

The current competition isn't sustainable...what a sustainable model looks like I don't know but I do know this isn't it.

Having said that, I can't see them changing anything macro in the short term.

I don't believe taking money from individuals is the best way to cope with this crisis.  We need a broader strategy

I think we need a broad-spectrum approach to this CoVid19 issue,  and the complications of this attached to economical issues,  such as our reliance on globalised trade,  and our outsourcing of most of our manufacturing industry.

Its plainly obvious,  that reliance on one or two major offshore producers of the worlds manufactured commodities,  is a bad idea.  And how that leaves us all, at a real vulnerable position.

We rely on personal safety equipme3nrnt cars and car parts.  As well as trucks,  and other heavy machinery required for our localised uses.

So this brings back the CEO's and directors,  Who are taking far too much money from our,  now struggling companies,  who should be paying their taxes locally here in Australia,  to underpin Australia's revenues.

Revenues required to pay for the running of our emergency services,  hospitals and medical industries.  Our roads maintenance, and general road and rail services.

With a reduction of international trade due to these changes to international trades,.  then the stock-market and generally globalised industries,  who have chosen in the past to offshore their businesses,  they better high tail it home,  whilst they can,  still call Australia HOME.!

Just looked up the length of the current media deal and as signed goes through until the end of 2021.

What I had not realised is that the AFL were close to getting a 2 year extension out of Channel 7 in February this year (2020). Channel 7must be thanking its lucky stars that the deal was not signed.

Would not be surprised to see an extension agreed however at a "fair price." You would not be wanting to go to the media market early 2021.

PS: According to this article they were close to extending the deal as recently as two weeks ago.

Perhaps getting a better cut of the mountain of cash that the MCC bathes in from MCG games

Get the AFL to build a Boutique stadium around Dandenong, similar to Adelaide's,  maybe smaller initially,  to become an alternate home base for games against our interstate rivals.

Allow the Bulldogs, Bummers, Carlton, Pies & Roos to play at the Dome,  and make this NEW boutique Stadium to serve the Dees, Tiges, Saints & Hawks,  for the smaller crowd pulling games.

This in turn,  will have the effect of giving the cubs better bargaining power,  to gain stronger, more realistic financial outcomes from their Victorian games.

And the Dandenong locality will serve the whole of the Eastern half of our state Victoria.

Better serving the much maligned Gippsland patrons.

Breaking News - The AFL will consider any half arsed idea to get some money out of a season which is clearly done and dusted.  winning a 'flag' under these bizarre scenarios would not mean anything

Wilcard rounds? Best of 3 GF's? This from a governing body that wanted to do away with GF replays? I think someone needs to call for a time out before this three ring circus starts to grow legs.

Honestly I wouldn't be against the AFL just creating a one time style of premiership, don't call it a premiership flag or any of the usual terminology, perhaps call it the AFL Championships (particularly if they're going to go down a US model play off system). By the way anyone that feels it's a selfish idea of the AFL to be trying to create a way to be able to maximise what little they can get out of the year, it's ultimately going to be beneficial to the competition and the clubs (ie us). So if a best of 3 Grand Final is a way to do that, then so be it.

It's just the AFL/Media pulling out every trick in their kitbag to try and stay relevant and in the news while there are no games being played. Anything to generate discussion. Mergers? Private ownership? Wildcard Round? Best of 3 Grand Final Series? Night Grand Final? Christmas Day Grand Final? Well at least that's a new one!

But even if our appetite for sport remains voracious the cost of attendance has risen sharply over the years for families who might now consider club membership a discretionary item rather than a necessity.

As we've observed previously, AFL clubs particularly have come perilously close to shaming supporters into purchasing membership over the past 25 years with campaigns that created the underlying assumption that "You are not a real supporter if you are not a member".

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
