I will be waiting with baited breath. Because we are owed a multi-million dollar precinct with state of the training and administrative facilities and a social club.

Given our dues, I would even lobby for a special exit on the Monash FWY that takes us directly to the precinct. New imaging technology can be used to scan rear license plates of incoming vehicles to see if the infamous Melbourne logo sticker is present. ?

Exactly. I can't believe the State Govt would call a press conference to make this announcement if there was a risk that MFC would be moving elsewhere very shortly.  This was a State Govt announcement it's not an announcement MFC had control over. All you Pert haters like @Mach5 etc, what would you be saying if the State Govt made this announcement and Pert and the Club said nothing.

Unlike most other clubs we don't even have the land for this so we're dealing with multiple Govt bodies try to get public land as well as the facilities. Yeh it's frustrating it's not sorted yet but come on take a bit of what @daisycutter is having and treat it as a glass half full progression.

Could not agree more it’s time. To compare us to Geelong or Footscray is ridiculous  .

Too far away from what? . An empty CBD or is it close to the mass migration to the outer burbs/ county regions that he Mornington peninsula is part of. Doesn't hurt Geelong to be based close to a surf coast / semi rural region.  Casey being too far away I think is overplayed. Otherwise I agree with your other points especially 4 locking in AMMI as the site.

I'm a reasonably keen MFC supporter who lives in Bayside and Casey is "too far away" for me to visit on anything more than an occasional basis.  I think a more central location is more accessible for the majority of players and fans.

I'm fine with Casey as a component of our set-up.  The ground is full-size, the surface seems good and the gyms etc are apparently state-of-the art. But I don't think it's an attractive primary location for player attraction and retention.

I think Geelong is a special case.  It seems St.Kilda couldn't get Frankston to work and have moved back to Moorabbin.  I think somewhere like Caulfield racecourse would be fine in that arose but AAMI Park is the best alternative.

I think upgrading Gosch's Paddock to a full sized AFL ground and better facilities at AAMI Park seems the most practical solution. The location is excellent and it won't cost a bomb.

The main issue I see is if we will we ever be able to hold private training sessions on Gosch's Paddock? i.e. using some sort of temporary screening. Otherwise, we will likely have to venture down to Casey once a week to do our tactical training sessions.

We should continue to train at Casey. We shouldn't toss away whatever good will we have built up over the years. "Thanks Casey, but we've found a hotter chick. You can [censored] off."

Plus, possession is nine tenths of the law. If we abandon Casey, some other club will swoop in and pick up the pieces and build on our good work. If for no other reason than to thwart them, we should continue our relationship with Casey.

I like it. So we should have a memorial walk lined with tulips from AAMI stadium to Gosch's paddock named the Flower Walk?

All this palaver about getting MCG length and Docklands width is just spin - it looks like they will be skimping 13 meters width to get essentially only a Docklands sized ground.  The hair splitting re MCG length 160m (vs 159.5 m Doclkands) is just that - hair splitting.

What could possibly be the problem with getting the extra 13 meters width?  One tree??

Possibly the minister did mention that no trees would be impacted by this construction.!!!

well the way i’m looking at it, if i’ve got my facts straight, is that i think casey is mcg sized. so we have one marvel size and one mcg. IF that’s so i’m happy enough.

Gonna beat the buzzer here. AAMI Park is being extended to accommodate the womens football world cup in 2023. Once that is over, a portion of the upgraded facility will be handed to us along with the bigger oval. Should result in our own gym, rooms, etc.

Having had some experience with FIFA's strict requirements and standards for World Cup stadiums and training facilities, whatever is handed over to us at the end of the women's World Cup will definitely be state of the art facilities.

In addition, one key element of any World Cup bid is a demonstration of the legacy of what happens to the facilities once the Cup is over. While I have no idea what our Cup bid looked like, a legacy of providing key facilities for the worlds oldest football Club would certainly not have hurt our bid.

"Legacy", from my experience, generally implies the item is given away. If this is the case, then we could end up with a state of the art home base in our preferred location for basically no cost. This would be a stunning outcome for the Club if true.

Greens see one tree as the thin edge mono.

Tell them we will replace it with a windmill ... and export the wood from the fallen tree to the wood fired power generators in Germany that are reputedly currently importing timber from North America

I'm totally with you on this 'mono'...why would we spend money on what is essentially a sub standard oval.

Not the way to start a state of the art facility...we are so far behind it's just not funny.

Step one of the plan needs to be an  MCG size oval (not a kinda MCG hybrid) then we work out from there.

If we can't get it at Goschs then forget it.

edit: everyone is so wanting a base that they're willing to accept 2nd best and think it's the greatest thing since...

given the location compromise was always going to be the outcome.

What worries me is that we have locked ourselves into 20th century training facilities when many other clubs have now moved beyond anything we can deliver in the MCG precinct

What if we tell the Greens that we're also taking out two lanes of Punt Road? That will discourage car use...and allow Gosch's Paddock to be extened to MCG width.

My first thought as well LDV. Push oval out to Punt Road, making it one line both ways (let’s face it, it won’t make the car park that is Punt Road any worse).

Will reduce both noise and car emission pollution. ?

No way - they would take the opportunity to put in a 4 lane "bicycle superhighway".

Exactly.

Both with perfect turf, with proper drainage.

And let's not over egg the pudding on the importance of training on a ground with the exact dimensions of the g.

Let's consider the winners of the last 5 flags. Tigers x 3. Dogs.  Eagles.

I assume the Eagles have a g size training ground (though not sure), but the tigers and dogs don't. Not even close.

Punt road and written oval are probably no bigger that goshs is currently.

Aren’t we better off having an oval that is different dimensions to the G seeing as we already have Casey? Practice on Gosch’s paddock before we play a smaller ground and Casey before we play the G. Better to have options I reckon

Geelong kissed on the [censored] again with another $142m to finish off KP (all paid for by the taxpayer of course). How much have they be given in total now for their ground redevelopment?

Meanwhile, we're lucky to be getting a $3m upgrade of Gosch's paddock (to which the MFC has contributed to). FMD, when it comes to our turn Governments are going to be crying poor stating that there's no money left to give😠

Is that $142 Mill on top of the $140 mill they have already milked?

I can’t open the article

It's paid by marking up reserve accounts. 😛 No taxpayer involved, sorry.

Come on can someone find out why the hell all the other clubs get money to do what they want???:o

Geelong, and all other Vic clubs have been given money twice over, whilst we have been left the crumbs🤬

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
