WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL

Taking HB was always a risk but one worth taking imo.

He cost us nothing to get him and he is being paid as a rookie.

If he plays for us it’s a bonus and if he doesn’t at least OUR club has supported him and given him the opportunity.

We all just need to stay positive and hope for the best.

As we've seen with these sorts of injuries it takes a lot of time and there are ALWAYS setbacks. Good examples being Viney who only just now seems like he's got his foot right (touch wood) and AVB who just had another set back on Friday night.

The guy is 27. Its a set back not a tear. Give the lad time (even if the media wont)

Unfortunately the cluib also did that to a good many players HT.

Lyon deserves more credit than some of us are providing...I'd take his word on this one.

To be fair to Ross, he always backed HB, said he was a good bloke and the media narrative wasn't definitive. Ross for all his faults backed his players.

I did not express that, but it remained unstated. That is one of the traits for which I have generally admired of Ross Lyon.

I think HB will be indefinite until he has a good 5-6 weeks of solid running.  It is a risk but I feel Goody is a genuine guy who is trying to resurrect Harley and give him every chance. For the good of MFC but importantly for Harley as a young man.

I think he'll need to build more muscle on his frame, all over.???   Maybe up to 10%.?

And start to do some training/Walking in beach sand, to aid muscle growth in the legs.

To aid the surgery he's had  which removed some muscles and tendons.

I suspect that his surgeon and our new fitness team will have a plan.  Perhaps beach walking isn’t the answer, or not yet.

Setbacks will happen with him, as it happened before. It’s about minimising the damaged and ensuring those setbacks are only minor so the recovery time reduces to more manageable levels.

FWIW I think we’ll get games out of him, the challenge will lie in managing recovery and in game fitness.

Whatever happens I’m glad we’re supporting him.

Given what we paid for him, I reckon it's a great pickup for us, even if it's just seeing how the rest of the team is getting around him. We are building a culture!

Gee, imagine our culture if we got around Ivan Milat, Harvey Weinstein and Bojack Horseman.

I reckon the. Players on less than $80000 shouldn’t have the same reductions as the others.

Absolutely it should be a sliding scale. Top earners (Dangermouse, Reiwoldt, Buddy, Dusty etc) should be showing leadership in this regard to help out their fellow players that are earning base salaries. Totally understand they're feeling a pinch as well but jeez there are others out there doing it a whole lot tougher.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
