On what planet would Bennell be a good recruit? I wouldn't touch the turd

If taking his one year deal gets the Hogan deal done for 2 first rounders I'm in.

Peter Bell isn't a fan and wants him gone, if Bennell is the steak knives to get the Hogan deal done then I'm willing to see if he can turn it around at the Demons next season.

Personally, I hope he finds a home and makes it back. He is a super talented player, and players like him firing make the game better to watch.

I'm sure i'm in the minority here but i'd be considering him on an absolute basement contract one year. just because if he does get himself fit he's super talented.

Different scenario, but you only have to look at how Jake Stringer is playing to realize the potential upside or high ceiling of taking on a player with his fair share of issues that could make them lost to the game, and getting it right. Goody is way too safe for it though.

Lol.. we let a bloke out to play on an already injured groin and its cost him a season.

We have no hope with Bennell.

He'd offer more to us running around with half a calf than most of our list at the minute.

He hits targets and kicks goals.

I'd absolutely throw him a 1 year contract.

We may as well test Darren Burgess ceiling while we're at it, as he rebuilds the clubs fitness in the off-season. Maybe the bloke works miracles.

Even if we "bounce back" next year, we're still going to missing these types of match-winning pieces that push other clubs into the very upper echelon. The Rioli's will still be licking their lips at the prospect of hunting down our one dimensional players next year, even if we rise. While down the other end, we have no livewires that can turn the momentum of a game off the back of a few efforts.

For various reasons Mr Bennell is long shot to get on the park consistently  next season. Pass.

Yep, all day.

I very much doubt he’ll get picked by any club. His injury history and lack of off-field brains should see to that.

Second thoughts, he’ll end up getting picked up by Hawthorn, they’ll get him right and he’ll win a Brownlow..

We lack leadership, experience, depth, accurate disposal, speed and goal kickers. There are so many holes to fill on our list and only so many draft picks to do it with. We need to explore all options. Harley Bennell is one I would explore. 1 year deal.

We are 17th on the ladder and we are going to turn up our nose at offering Bennell a life line?

Our list is clearly not going to win us any silverware, so a base one year deal is worth the risk. Super talented player, doubt he ever makes it back but on the 2% chance he does he is worth the punt.

He'll need to prove he can play again before anyone gives him a shot, he's played nearly no footy for 4 years, or managed a game or 2 then breaks down. He was a super talent, but is he anymore? He's more likely to be a mid season pick next year rather than be taken in the normal draft

Sam McClure is reporting on trade radio that Freo are looking to trade him if possible. Obviously has had some troubles but has insanely good talent and would come super cheap. Worth a look for the right price?

SHEEEEEEEEET NO

about as much value as a sheethouse rat after a hangover on a Sunday morning!

NOOOOOO!

Goody is too safe? The coach who:

- experimented with a 4 man "diamond defense" and an 8 man back line with 4 runners into the square;

- went after the best intercept defender in the comp as part of an attacking zone game plan;

- was willing to trade out a troubled but star key forward for a gun lock down defender in response to 666 changes;

- was willing to back in a young KPF and a rookie instead of sticking wih the safe journeyman; and

- was willing to reinvent players in different positions such as Frost to the back line,  TMac forward and Lewis forward;

is too safe?

Nerves? Pah. Bennell has repeatedly torn his Achilles.

The only way to fix it is to sew the ripped edges together and hope they hold.

  • CASEY: Geelong

    There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

    I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

    Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

    Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
