Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We have absolutely nothing to lose and so much to gain by picking him up.

Imagine if Darren Burgess our fitness guru gets him right.. Not only will he be EXACTLY what we need. But we could be a team that talented players with niggling injuries turn to as an opportunity to get themselves right. At the moment, blokes like Jager Omeara, Scully, Paton are turning to Hawks for that reason.

Doesn't work out? Oh well, they are the expectations from the whole football world anyway.

Burgoyne? Scully? O'Meara?

You had a reasonable argument 'steve' until you mentioned these 3.

3 of the most professional players in the game.

In reality you can't put them in the same argument.

I appreciate he may not play much and there is huge risk.. Would just love to be bold and have some things fall out way. Not since Jurrah have I been excited about an individual player.. This guy was a star. Best player in the comp for 12 months.

The beauty of it is that it isn’t our decision.

He’ll go to a Melbourne based club alright. But it will be the type that opens at night and plays loud music.

And just adding some further info...

According to the report, specialists have identified a tendon pushing onto a nerve in both of Bennell's calves is the cause of the problem.

Bennell is adamant he still has plenty of good footy left in him and is determined to get his body right.

Importantly, surgeons are confident he will be ready to hit the track by November.

Report: Bennell to meet with Victorian club

"Experts" also said that the cause of KK's repeated concussions was a neck problem, and the message from the club was that it would be able to be managed now that a diagnosis was in hand. That worked out well for us didnt it?

Experts arent always correct.

(Not a personal shot Nev, just expressing huge caution)

Yeah for sure, and the timing of them all of a sudden finding a magical cure is a bit suss. Would think Burgo would be all over it should we actually have interest though.

Interesting point re Darren Burgess. I did some research re his background and in addition to elite level exoerience with Port Adelaide Football Club he was also Fitness Boss for an English Premiership League side named Arsenal. I further researched the EPL and Arsenal and they are a 'football' league, soccer to be precise, and are run quite professionally not unlike the AFL. For those of us who have seen soccer before they suffer some hideous leg injuries and use this magic spray which has the players back up in minutes. I hope the club did its due dillegence and asked Darren Burgess how much magic spray he is able to bring with him. I reckon ot would work a treat with Harley Bennell.

That Dustin Martin story is a classic example of a myth that's been repeated so often that some people are now happy to consider it as fact.  The club (like everybody else) identified Scully and Trengove as the two standouts at the time and drafted them.

Mate, as mentioned previously, I'm talking about when he was out of contract around about 2013 or so and teams were weighing up the risk v reward.

Dusty was always a better player then both scully and trengove, all Scilly has is his running power Trengove was alway a 1, dimensional player, the only reason he went at 3 is because of his family background

For what it's worth I'm in team yay Harley Bennell. The irony is that successful teams can take a punt on outsiders (see Stack, Ryan etc.) while bottom-dwellers need to be super-cautious about this concept called culture. [censored] it. Let's take some risks.

I said it earlier in this thread but I'll say it again. The supplemental list period allows clubs to have guys train with them before officially being listed. That's the move for Bennell. If his body holds up all summer and he's ready to play by March that's when you give him a contract.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. Sunny, though a touch windy, this morning, 23 of them no emergencies.  Forwards out first. Harrison Petty, JvR, Jack Billings, Kade Chandler, Kozzy, Bayley Fritsch, and coach Stafford.  The backs join them, Steven May, Jake Lever, Woey, Judd McVee, Blake Howes, Tom McDonald

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
