Demons hope for flying start as coaches jet off to the US

Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin and recently appointed director of coaching Alan Richardson jetted off to the USA on Friday for a week of professional development as the players prepare to return for pre-season training seeking redemption for their disappointing 2019.

Not to mention the 2019 season.

I assume this is more part of the coaches collective agreement ie you are entitled to x days professional development.

Didn't ND go to New York to meet some famous coach and came away with a 10 min tour of the locker room and  an autographed photo?

Richardson to Goodwin on the flight. How were you able to pick apart my game plan so easily?

If I had an all-expenses paid opportunity to advance my knowledge of the particular aspect of the world I've chosen to devote my brain to, I'd definitely not go to Vegas. I might see my way to going to LA or New York though. There's bound to be at least one smart person in those two cities combined.

No we were hung over this year following our finals appearances last year. I hope it doesn’t linger.

Wouldn't that be Goodwin to Richardson?

Yes, apologies

Which coach went off to meditate in India? IIRC it went very well.

Perhaps Goodwin could seek divine inspiration for his game plan. I can just see him sitting in the lotus position chanting..

"Play Fritsch forward"

Goodwin: How were you able to pick apart my game plan so easily?

Richo: First answer me this Goody. And be honest.  Do you know what a game plan is?

Goodwin: How come every [censored]in' coach I run into asks me that?

Richo: It's a serious question.

Goodwin: I get asked about it all the time, I'm interviewed after every match, I have to front up to the board every month ... how could I not know what a game plan is?

Richo: So answer the question then. Do you know what a game plan is?

Goodwin: ... promise you won't laugh?

If the movies on the flight were any good they wouldn't have to have these awkward conversations

Do we have any other coaches besides Goodwin and Richardson?   We let go of a few but I havent heard of any replacements

Nah... but we have a great new data analyst

Thought I had a wicked sense of humour but you guys are ruthless. IKIt would be interesting to know how many coaches  implement or use anything they observe in the US. Yes travel broadens the horizons crowd but beyond that?  It would be interesting to know why they have chosen their visiting spots, who they will be meeting, and any specifics of what they hope to learn. Templates are fine but not always relevant to different countries, cultures, sports.

It's a bonus for the great years they both had in 2019 Ernest.

Junket at best. It’s part of their “strategic development”. Networking and bonding perhaps

it’s like all those years of Jimmy Plunkett selling clubs on his “leading teams” sessions. Hundreds of thousands drizzled away.

They could save a bunch of cash and log on here to engage with the Mensa crowd

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
