In a shock twist he’s won the Rising Star.
Scratch rising. Already just a star.

At 198cm, I don’t think Jackson will ever be a dominant ruckman. He’s a good accumulator around the ground, but he’ll eventually come up against other rucks who are 10cm and 10kg heavier and get pushed around. He also doesn’t have an insane leap like NicNat, who is 202cm, so bigger to start with.

His best hope to become a force is as a tall forward or defender, and IMO he doesn’t show the skill level. He’s not a great kick and hasn’t showed he can split packs with big contested marks.

Not worth pick 3 IMO.

Na I reckon he'll be alright

100%. He’s proved me wrong and is developing very well. Now I think he struggles as a tall forward but guns it as a ruck. Just need to lock him away long term now!

Yeah.  Could possibly turn out to be ok for us 🙄🤔💙❤️

An amazing talent - when taking centre bounces is like having an extra rover in there when he doesn’t tap it to someone else to clear it.  And I am 100% sure that he will help get an extra 2-3 years out of Big Max.

What an inspired selection.

I take it he doesn’t wear a mouth guard? If that’s the case it’s quite surprising.

Gee some posts near the start of this thread did not age well  🤣

Enormous talent and seems likely a great clubman really hope both he a Rivers are with us for a very long time - both are a large part of the reason we are on the rise

What a mad [censored].

Mouthguard in please Luke!

Ok now it’s off to see a dentist and orthodontist to get a mouth guard fitted.  Get one to save the rest of your pearly whites.

But seriously … Luke “Dogga” Jackson is still just teasing us Dees supporters.  I’m waiting for him to just grab the game and kick multiple goals or just elevate his 2nd efforts to new levels.  His speccy v lions was again just a teaser.   We have seen what he can do. In bursts and patches and quarters and some games.

LJ will be so crucial going forward.  Potentially he gets the 2nd ruck matchup against Ladhams from Port or the Allir Allir contest across our forward line. He’d have to bring it all across both such contests. I’d backing him in as he’s still got huge upside ahead.

I think I have an idea what Luke wants for Christmas!

Absolutely. it takes 2-3 seasons to build the body and engine to compete consistently at AFL level and LJ is definitely ahead of the curve here. He has a fantastic attitude towards training and learning as well - looking to avoid the same mistakes that Maxy made earlier in his career (Gawn is going to be such a pivotal role model).

This guy can be anything and will cause so many headaches for the years to come in terms of match-up. Rivers, Kozy and LJ will become very good players and to think that we have Trac, Oliver, Lever and bunch of others still in their early 20's. Such an exciting time to be part of this football club.

Shades of Jeff White?

As a player almost ahead alreafy

As a facial injury, only a mere pallid shadow.  My blood boils whenever I think of that day and the lack of repercussions to the perpetrator (?King) and the nauseating smug response of that despicable lowlife Bomber Thompson

Thanks for that hint.

I have just spent a very happy half hour trawling through some of the pre-draft comments.

I can say however well done to Mach5 and Wells 11 who were among the early supporters.

I read that he was actually wearing a mouthgard when it happened, they don't actually prevent this happening 100% if you cop a decent whack

He will be scary good in a couple of years, and I mean Adam Goodes, Nic Nat, Buddy Franklin Good.

Keep pinching myself about what we got in that draft. Dogga , Riv and Koz.

Big part of what’s happening now in rejuvenating the team.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
