To be fair - you don't have a reputation for subtlety.

At 198cm, I don’t think Jackson will ever be a dominant ruckman. He’s a good accumulator around the ground, but he’ll eventually come up against other rucks who are 10cm and 10kg heavier and get pushed around. He also doesn’t have an insane leap like NicNat, who is 202cm, so bigger to start with.

His best hope to become a force is as a tall forward or defender, and IMO he doesn’t show the skill level. He’s not a great kick and hasn’t showed he can split packs with big contested marks.

Not worth pick 3 IMO.

I saw him at the Vic country v WA game live and agree he is an athlete but NOT worthy of pick 3.  Would be 3year project type and then needs to work on footy skills and smarts.  Raw is best description. Maybe maybe at pick 8 but I’m still seeing 3-4 others preferably available. It’s Young at 3 and Kemp/Flanders/Ash at 8 for me.

You are spot on with you assessment. Young at 3 should be a lock. However, we seem to like to go for the left of field bolters. I think we lack good users of the ball and Young is exactly that. If there at 8, then Jackson could be an option.

Bit of a package about Jackson here.

Perhaps he will end up being a special player but given he is still so very raw, if you are a recruiter you’d want a pretty bloody handy crystal ball and nuts made from titanium to pick him over Young at 3.

With this much doubt on his readiness and the wisdom of taking a ruck in the top ten... seems to be a very strong chance he’ll be there at 8.

Both Kemp and Jackson are long term propositions that would have minimal expectations to have an immediate impact.

Happy to take either at 8.

If Kemp is there at 8 I would pick him, most of the experts who watched him before the knee went considered him as pick 1/2 and he is cross between Dangerfield and Cripps.

If Kemp has gone the Jackson may be the best with a huge upside.

I think people are getting carried away with Kemp. He’s never been spoken about as a 1/2 option. Rowell and Anderson were a clear top 2, and both are far better than Kemp at this stage.  He was firming as a top 5 choice before injury as he had a good end to the carnival and started having an impact in the midfield. He spent most of his junior footy down back then up forward. He’s still not been overly productive in the midfield, and recruiters were excited by his potential.

Regardless, I’d also take him at 8. Him or Stephens.

I wouldn’t take Jackson with either top 10 pick.

Based on limited highlights package kicking clearly not a strength at least at this stage - hard to see how he could be a top 10 pick irrespective of his athletic ability

For now we need Young at 3. If Jackson is available at 8 then if we see him as being more than just a ruck ie can also be genuine forward then maybe. Still think we need to draft for now but if they rate him highly and see him as having versatile skill set then, again, maybe.

He does look like a promising but untamed colt in his highlights. Ceiling high but a lot of development required.

i forward who cannot kick, sounds like he is made for us to take at 3.

Wouldn't call this a leak. He actually just came out and said it, so I'd call this a bit of misdirection.

I wouldn't mind Jackson at 8. Big tall CHF is what we need in case Weid doesn't make it.

My draft would be.

ROWELL

ANDERSON

YOUNG

GREEN

SERONG

KEMP

JACKSON

ROBERTSON

STEPHENS

ASH

WEIGHTMAN

FLANDERS

Sounds very similar to Bradke. Can’t see the point in having 2 basketball types, both requiring years of development.

Yes Jackson is a project type.  Very very raw.

The last “super junior elite” ruckman chosen in top 10 was Billy Longer, drafted by Lions pick 8 in 2011. That didn’t go well and most rucks haven’t worked as top picks.

I’m guessing he has Freo taking Jackson. I’d take Ash in that draft guess, with a Kemp gone

Not drafting Jackson because we have Bradtke is about the equivalent of not drafting Hogan because we had Jack Fitzpatrick. Irrelevant.

Plenty of valid reasons not to draft a ruck with a high pick and that they take time is one of the most valid ones but Jackson is one of the best performed players in this draft crop, he's not in the same postcode as Bradtke who by definition couldn't play footy for years to qualify as Cat B.
