I hope Frosty stays, at a fair price - he had a great year and tried his guts out in all 22 games, which is more than I can say about most of the boys. We need guys who leave it all on the park each and every week.

Sure there's a little bit of Frost Ball, but I think that's a small price to pay for the other things he does. Plus, if some of our boys did their share, the ball wouldn't be down there in the circumstances that it was so often this year.

I'm not convinced Frost can be coached to be anything more than he currently is, which means he cannot play on a wing, he cannot play up forward or on the ball. He's a defender. A very handy defender, but if he was traded for another key position defender, we haven't lost rebound out of defence, we've lost a player that can keep Brown to 2 goals and limit Hawkins impact in a final quarter - which we would want to replace with another player. If we want rebound out of defence, we should be looking at players than can rotate between wing, midfield and half back, or even half forward, players with skill by foot primarily, and just enough pace to evade a tackle. Players that have the tank to gut run up and down the G and help out their key position defenders who hold the fort/outer rim of press

I think you are too fixated on the running aspect of his game. I am happy for him primarily to be the number two defender and nullify the Browns and Hawkins.

One paper says we have lowballed him, while another quotes his manager who says we haven't offered him anything as yet but things look positive.

I don't know who to believe, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Maybe we offered him a performance based contract, $10K for every effective kick.

Clearly Frosty thinks he might be better off taking the $400K upfront than work on his kicking ?

If we offer him a performance based contract on pure exhilaration he would be our highest paid player.

Maybe not on exhilaration, but on heart-rate there would be no contest!

I would be sad to see him go. I actually think he could do alright in the forward line, crashing packs and putting the pressure on. He showed glimpses in the last game at the G when he got moved up there

His kicking is to unreliable to become a forward

Sadly that puts him on a par with the rest of our forwards.

it's barely reliable enough to have him in the backline

this eulogizing of frost surprises me a bit tbh

he's no better than a 'good, ordinary' player, not the star that some are making out

he has a dip, the #frostball drives me to distraction, and for every two good things he does i reckon there's five genuine wtf moments

Classic Melbourne.

Frost is no super star but at least we gets on the park each week and provides us with some run and dash which we severely lack.

He looks really good galloping out of the backline with ball in hand

until he turns it over and it goes back over his head for a goal.

I won't be too upset if he goes, he's only depth when we have a fully fit list so depends what we get for him

He took a mark directly in front and kicked it further away from goal than towards it. He is what he is.

.....probably just lost a footy he kicked..

Frost is a liability, as long as he is in best 22 we aren't going anywhere. Not to say he isn't in our best 22 however, just that if he is we wont be challenging for a flag.

DISAGREE  a host of other Dees who HAVE CONTRACTS are as useful as an Ashtray in a motorbike

FROSTY BIG KEEPER IMV

Yeah and just remind me again how many SIMPLE shots by forwards went astray Petracca the biggest offender!!

we are 17 so only GC can trump us for Langdon

He just puts his price out there. Freo can have some steak knives if need be. Stretch/JKH or similar.

Hawks could get trumped by 8 odd clubs for Frost.. very different

This gets brought up every year and it never happens. Supporters like to think they'll get something for nothing but clubs are far more intelligent with their dealings with other clubs, especially ours.

I don’t disagree with that, so do you think adding another unreliable kick would help

makes for a good video grab though

He's improved since this. We'd be mad to get rid of him.

He'll be our best defender within 3 years I reckon.

His disposal has improved steadily this year.

100% agree. Yes he is entertaining, frost ball and all and I do love his dash out of the back line. But let's be honest Frosty leaks goals and plays an unaccountable defensive game at times (defending in front, running off his man etc). He is a run of the mill key defensive position player. 2nd rounder to swap for Langdon.

Yeah let’s trade a player who has SPEED because we have soo many other players who are fast. He is obviously surplus to our needs.

Bloody [censored].

Frost definitely improved this year and was certainly top 10, maybe even top 5, but we finished 17th. Anyone saying they'd be shattered or what have you, if he left, has completely lost touch with reality.

He still gives up almost as many goals as he saves.

If Sam wants a better offer and we can get a more solid best 22 player in, pull the trigger.

Tackle of the year, every back- mans wish, don't care what else happened....

SAM FROST

Melbourne has seriously lowballed the out-of-contract key defender, who looks certain to reject that contract offer and join a third AFL club. It emerged last night that North Melbourne — following Scott Thompson’s retirement — could overtake Hawthorn as a suitor with both clubs targeting key defenders

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
