2 Things.

Firstly, if as has been reported we haven't tabled an offer to him yet, how can we have then seriously low balled him?

Secondly, if he has been seen at Waverly, as has been been reported, he might enjoy living on top of his neighbours and  might've just been looking at a house ?

Makes no sense to trade Frost given his improvement and given the dodgy bodies of Lever, May and Jetta.

His physical attributes have been mentioned by others but it is the probable loss of other key backs during the season that worries me most.

And despite his brain fades, he brings genuine excitement that few of our players bring to a game  Many of our players have as little spark as a flat battery.

Would be really disappointed to see him go.

Re-sign him already, Lever and May can't even get on the park, we're [censored] if Omac is getting a game.

The word i have heard is that Goodwin doesn't rate Frost as highly as some on here, and feels his trade value will never by higher. Same source called the Watts and Hogan trades mid season. Doesn't mean he will be traded, but if the deal is right they won't hesitate on moving him on.

I reckon Plough would have done more than Bails and Neeldy, and even Goody.

The only MFC coach that came close to doing what Plough did at the dogs in the last 50 years is Northey; yet Northey wasn't successful at Richmond either.

Plough wasn't successful at Richmond, but at least there was some foundation there for future success....Like Barass from 81-85 if you get my drift.

I back my coaching selections (Roos, Plough, Lyon, Ratten) over 17 years on these forums over those that the club employed (Lyon) and the many simpletons like yourself who wouldn't have a flaming clue.

Yeah Richmond's success was built off the foundations laid by Wallace ?

How could he rate Frost as highly as some on here? He'd have to be a mix of Scarlett and Fletcher with a touch of Silvagni thrown in.

Or the torpedo punts into the centre square from full back

If it's the one Vs the Hawks in the final last year that I'm thinking of which resulted in us going coast to coast and goaling via T Mac - that was one of the highlights of the year for me.

I'd also add to that list you had that Frosty is one of the few players that Lance Franklin dares not to take on.

@Engorged Onion, I think this is also what I was referring to with Frosty, I think the goals from turnovers also needs to be balanced with the line breaking, that he brings.  It would be interesting to look at the score involvement stats for Frosty as I think they could be fairly high for a key backman.  On his day, Frosty can be a game breaking X factor that not all players have - we just need to work on him breaking more games in our favor than agaist, but I think when the whole team is up and firing I think it will be more of the former.

I can see Clarko turning Frosty into an absolute beast running off Half Back, if he was traded.

Frosty is big and athletic with the right attitude.

The rest can be taught and Clarkson knows it.

Goodwin, it’s time we got a Skills Coach into the the Club rather than under valuing what we already have.

Frost is a keeper....

A range of valid points and they don't quite wash for me - I respectfully disagree :)

Spot on.

And I can see Frost moving to the hawks if we don't offer more.

Could never understand why frost was not given a go on the Wing.

I don’t think he has the footy iq. He can only play defence because he can be lead to the ball. I don’t think Frosty finding his own ball anywhere fwd of centre will work.

i think he still has development in him but it’s a limited ceiling, in saying that I think in a fully fit back section with May, Lever and Hore he gives us something to enjoy and I want him to stay, for the right price.

Bump...keeper for all of the above and it will send a terrible signal to the rest of the group when your most improved player in a season doesn't get the respect he should at the contract table.

Jnr. Mac ghost will rear it's ugly head if not careful..... "Culture".

The Hawks aren't silly.  Clarko will play Frostmeister between the arcs and let him launch inside 50.  The Hawks, like the Tiges, don't care that much as to how its delivered as long as its a tumble punt work burner "NO bombing" where possible.  Lessons the impact of the interceptors like Mcgovern etc.

Frost can also go with the likes of Ben Brown where others wont be able to (see Rooeys comments about this on SEN).

If we lose him then Ben (and similar types....see Buddy in Rnd 4 where Frosty was praised for his shut down role!) get a free ticket whenever we play them.

Don't be silly Goody....lock him away mate.

Oh yes it will, with the right tuition

Attitude is the only thing that cannot be “taught” It is either there or it isn’t.

The MFC are insane if they trade Frosty cheaply

Clarkson would revell in that challenge

I reckon Frost's disposal has improved markedly and despite the odd howler, it's not his biggest problem. The issue is giving away goals through brain farts, being (way) out of position, poor contesting with the incoming ball, giving away free kicks (often repeatedly with far too late tackles or just wtf moments). He's just not a natural footballer but has improved markedly and gives his all.

His speed was a godsend in our plodding backline (with May mostly out of the side) and Frostball (if he hits his target) can work as neither side has a clue what he's going to do.

Facts:

Ranked 8th in the league for intercept possessions

25th for spoils

Intercept marks 38th (ahead of Hore but behind Gawn)

Turnovers 205th

Clangers 75th

Here's the killer - Contested Defensive losses 7th

I'd love to keep him if there's no decent trade offers because he'll keep on improving. Prefer him ahead of Omac (another plodder)

The years spent in investing and seeing Frosty develop why would you let him go to another club, if it is money remember Carlton came up short on Betts , Adelaide's gain. They say the Dees lack leg sped on the wings well why don't

they let frost have a go there let other clubs try matching up with some like Sam who is quick, good overhead and can kick a long distance no wonder the Hawks and Roos are licking their lips. What a ready made footballer they would get.. A long time supporter please keep Sam Frost  reminds me of a young Gary Hardiman. Stick with the Dees Sam. David long time suffering supporter

Apart Frost taking the ball out of defensive 50, we never look like scoring out of our back half. Dinky kicks from Salem and co. end up running us into just as much trouble as one of Frost’s adventures. Aside from that, his speed allows him to play on the more mobile forwards and even allows him to play smaller if needed.

Yes the offensive side of his game needs some greater control and care, but he is still a good defender. Frost may have looked well truley beaten at times one on one this year, but you can chalk that up to our mids literally just watching their opponents waltz into our forward 50.

Agreed.  When Frosty gets the footy it normally ends up at least 50m+ further from our opponents goal through either his run or a booming kick and most of the time we have time to get back and defend a possible turn over.  Much better than handballing 5m and putting a team mate under pressure 30m from goal as many others seem to do as well.

Would be interested in the rankings shown as a percentage of contests. Might not be any better considering we were only (?) 10th worst in the comp at conceding inside 50s but would still give a better indication.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
