This thread has more merit then the Brayshaw thread.

Brayshaw has bigger upside, kicks goals and has more potential in other positions. But let’s not let the facts get in the way.

I agree with you on this Oli, but seriously doubt we'd get enough for him on the trade table.

Viney is a very limited footballer, compounded by his tendency to get injured. Brayshaw is in a form slump, whose best far surpasses Jack's.

If it was up to me Viney would be stripped of captaincy straight away and I'd be looking at potential options.

I will give him the benefit of doubt that he hasn't done a full pre season in 4 years. This is his chance this summer. He must change his game style and get rid of the rugby union [censored] that he tries to pull off every game.

I am hoping he gets that burst back into his game that made him a great player back in 2016.

As my starting mid, I am still having Oliver, Petracca and Brayshaw/Harmes as my go to.

What do we with his old man then? The Brexit Irish Backstop for Northern Ireland would be easier to sort out.

Spot on.

We sacked James McDonald and it took years to recover any sense of leadership and stability.  Sure let the asylum decide to commit another crazy act.

Agree with this except benefit of the doubt  point. Personally I feel wholesale changes are required and to get talent you need to give up talent. Usually best place to give up talent is where you can afford to.

Agree on starting mids. Would also like to see Salem given a run through the inside.

We should look into this for a few reasons

1. Our plethora of inside midfielders which are pushing others out (eg Tyson, Brayshaw). This will continue to happen

2. List balance, we need more outside midfielders and currency to bring them in. Viney will help us get there

3. Vineys inability to play on other positions, he is 1 inside mid recruit away from being pushed out and made redundant like Ollie Wines has

4. He is a free agent next year, we should try get value for him while we can

5. Rumours circulating of him being favourited by Goodwin and possibly causing a rift

6. His ability to stay on the park. We struggle to even get half a season out of him.

7. Jones re-signing- surely we only have enough room for one player bombing inside 50

8. Doesn’t defend

If there ever was a time to trade him it is now, and if we draft an Anderson or Rowell, someone will need to make room.

Hi old man does nothing as far as I can see. Spends a lot of time leaning on the fence at the paddock.

What is his real job?

There is one stat that stands out to me re: Jack and his importance to our side.

In the three finals last year, he averaged:

23 disposals, 6 tackles, 8 clearances, 16 contested possessions and 4 inside fifties a game.

When the pressure was on, he rose to the occasion, and that was off the back of an injury interrupted year.

He didn't set the world alight this year, but then who did?  Not many to be honest.

I want blokes in my side that can step up on the big stage, and Jack has shown that he is more than capable of doing that as a leader of our club.

He is built for finals!!!

Trading your Captain is absolutely stupid and the troll who set this thread up is the only bloke I want traded.

He’s not just a battering ram!

Not a chance unless it was a clincher to seal a deal for a marquee must get 'missing ingredient' star player and possibly the difference between making a GF or not.  Or maybe a few!  eg;  Jeremy Cameron or Tim Kelly.

Oli, I think you should take your own advice. In 2019, Viney played 21 out of 22 games.

There are rumours that his good mate Ollie Wines could be traded for the right offer.  I think it is highly unlikely but it wouldn't be the first time a club traded their captain.

He is our least flexible midfielder so needs more strings to his bow as it limits Goodwin's game tactic options.  So i wouldn't mind seeing him spend large chunks of a game forward.  This gives others the opportunity to play midfield who are equal to or better than him.

Viney needs a top notch preseason to regain his form and if he doesn't regain it, that is the time to discuss what the options are.

I'm in the camp that he relinquish the co-cap to focus on his form and to broaden his game.

Viney will be fine, in fact all of our inside mids will be fine, when they’ve got legitimate options on the outside to shuffle the pill out to. Anyone would look hesitant and try to do too much if they looked up and saw ANB, JKH and Stretch etc as primary give off options.

Watch the intensity and congestion of this weekend’s finals and then come on here and say we should trade Viney. Sheer lunacy.

?

Read the latest article on the MFC website - he said he hasn't done a preseason for 3 years.  not that they were interrupted, that he didnt really have one any year.

what happened 3 years ago you ask?  he won the BnF

he is a champ

Lol every time I look your randomly posting complaining about me and not discussing footy or the Dees. Very boring life indeed. Your Obsessed about me mate.

Im sure most people would find discussions about trading Viney more interesting then discussing me :)

Yep and if he cracks the sheeeits then trade out to potential suitors, I don't care at what pick either..

Limited player with limited impact .. almost a throwback to the sixties and seventies when getting the ball and roosting it were the rage.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
