1- some passion and heart for the contest.  Last night was an embarrassing return to no respect.  Swans rubbed our noses in the dirt and they are rebuilding.  

2- Preuss in.  Spargo out.  Team selections due to no form and no structure have been very puzzling. Preuss needs to be given more time. 

3- run and run and kick long.  Yes sometimes there is no forwards but we go so slow, the opposition simply flood back and strangle us. Keep two forwards inside 50.  At least one capable off marking the footy. Simple stuff. 

4- Kick the goal.  Our goal accuracy is horrible.  Simple shots missed from 20-30 metres in front. 

Plus “ kick the goal”. We overhandballing inside the 50. It’s like no one wants to kick the goal. They are scared to kick it. We try to run by handball to the 10 metre square. Ridiculous strategy!! 

5- lazy footy. Chip kicks 15 metres sideways.  Safe and lazy. Salem. Hibberd.  Viney play it safe and actually slow down movement 

6- Centre square clearances. For a dominant ruckman in Gawn, we LOSE most centre square clearances! Oliver Viney Brayshaw Petracca are all good in the inside

7- forward strategy. Why do our forwards always lead to the pockets. It’s totally stupid.  If you mark it or crumb it, it’s a 10% chance of accuracy. And it’s so easily spiked/punched out of bounds. 

8- stop leaving the opposition with a loose defender. Rance/Grimes, Hurn/McGovern, Rampe/Lloyd, Stewart/Henry. This week it’s likely to be THOMPSON AND Macmillan just sitting back and picking off our sloppy forward 50 entries with no opponent. So many teams rebound out of our defence too easily. They back themselves to win the footy and destroy us with counter attack skill week after week.  Our loose defender has no effect. Man up all over. 

9- 2nd effort running. Too many players handball and kick and stop.  Maybe it’s the turnovers that have led to no confidence in our forward movement.  Good teams , like us in 2018, run in waves and give options.  It’s like having extra players.  Maybe it’s a lack of fitness. Try this at least for the last game. Just try attacking. No matter what the score, our goal should be 15 goals.  

10- play the full quarter and the full ground. Our players switch off too easily. They work for 90% and switch off. It’s costly. It’s the poor handball or poor kick that ruins the run. It’s laziness. The ball is nearly over so we stop. Push hard for 100%. It’s all a laugh and giggle sometimes.  We are not ready in the first 2-3 minutes or the 25 minute onwards. We concede so many goals at the start and end of the quarter. Goody should be screaming “switch on” about 100 times a game. 

Give us something this week. Our year has been embarrassing. Really destroying our faithful and loyal members and supporters.

    Aside from culture, character and coaching issues we don’t do cold, wet, windy and general miserable weather. That’s the likely game day scenario. I expect another response like Roo’s last game as coach against Geelong. A 100 point thrashing is not out of the question.

    Bolded for truth. It looks exactly like that. There's plenty of posters on this board that are in line with that thinking as well.

    Next week will be an example of the stinking culture of our club if things go the way i, and plenty of the football world expect.

    We have an undeniable history of giving up in games when we dont have a chance at finals. We also have a poor recent record of not turning up for games when we HAVE been a chance at making finals.

    Collingwood showed us what it means to play for your jumper a couple of years ago by knocking MFC out of the finals, when they had nothing but pride to play for. MFC is likely to bow out without firing a shot. I can see North winning by 15 goals plus, and our team simply not giving a [censored].

    Prove me wrong Melbourne.

    If our recent body of work is anything to go by I think we're looking at a loss of similar proportions to the one that saw out Roosy's tenure as coach. Having been in damage limitation mode for much of the season the stress is finally starting to show and it wouldn't surprise me at all if the dam wall finally gives way against North. I'll be concentrating on where I can find the best dark ales and good coffee to drink in town. The game itself will be incidental.

    1- Goldy is winning the ball out of the middle 

    2- we are linking up runners with 2 or 3 runners and then a kick THOROUGH THE CORRIDOR (hello simpletons)

    3- forwards have space AS THE BALL IS COMING IN QUICK

    Hes' dead right, it's that mindset that killed us dead this season, "We almost made a GF, it's all just gonna happen automatically for us next season". Weak as [censored] this club, I've got no faith at all in this list and especially the coaches.

    Absolutely spot on. We’re still the same old Melbourne with a rotten culture. Even though a team is having a poor year you can still find a reason to respect them, for Melbourne I have none anymore. They just roll over, it’s pathetic.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
