Who will be our caretaker coach mid next year if Goodwin is sacked ?

This doesn't seem to be a topic of discussion currently, given what's happened at the 3 other clubs this year and how an assistant coach could realistically be temporarily at the helm and then appointed. Jennings, McAartney and others moved on, and yet we're not sitting here discussing an assistant to jump on board NOW like Caracella at EFC & Ratten the year earlier at St K that will be waiting in the wings for an opportunity the following year.

If that ever happened I’d stop barracking for Melbourne let alone take out a membership or go to live games.

AND  I MEAN IT!!!

A little premature, we don't even know the ccoaching staff for next year... Maybe wait until we have a coaching staff & start the season 1-4 before speculating

What's the use of sacking him mid season.

Sack him now and give the new guy the off season and pre season to remake this shambles of a team.

It would be Rawlings. Has done it before, has experience now running his own team as well.

Nice idea - if others cannot come to the party. Proven in many ways at the MFC. I'd also link in Jordan Lewis - too talented and knowledgeable to overlook; but if Yze decides to return, all three would be a good mix.

He won't be sacked, this team will get a big preseason in and jump back up the ladder.

I'd like to think so, but the team is stuffed in the head with misunderstandings about a game plan, about contested footy, about finding spaces forward of centre, about the positive uses across a game of the wings, about just nearly everything that Goodwin has done; and, as a team, it is exhausted.

I reckon we should go after Sam Mitchell. He’ll be the next ‘big’ coach.

yep get him as midfield coach, and Roughie as forward coach, and keep Lewis around as an assistant as well. then get rid of Goodwin.

Exactly Kent. Why are we waiting for the middle of next year? Do it now.

I can only wish and hope and have faith.

Nothing I have seen in the last 5 weeks tells me that things will change. But there you go.

We are now having to be a faith based supporter group.

I agree with how bad it has been and how bad it looks but, Every player will get a min of 4 extra weeks of preseason and a lot will get an extra 8 to 12 weeks. This team has just looked unfit all year and that makes you miss easy kicks and handballs at this level. If the problem was deeper we would have heard a lot more come out. Interesting thing will be to see how many "if any" ask to be traded out.

First you have to reconcile the reality that we just signed Goodwin to an expensive multi-year contract. A big payout for no return is not something the club can afford. Any replacement will come at the cost of paying Goodwin out for the next few years. Goodwin should not walk away as this will be his last go at coaching at the senior level. It is likely that in the remote chance of Goodwin going, the immediate replacement  will be someone cheap who we do not have to look for. Most likely this would be Rawlings. From what I have seen, he is a better coach than Goodwin and is hungry to achieve. He has won Casey games with his gameday coaching which Goodwin only has done a couple of times, seemingly by accident. I would be as happy if they just swapped jobs now.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
