Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Re Vic Park my understanding is that Yarra council have no interest in using Vic Park for anything other than local use. And why would the Pies want to go back there they have effectively replaced us in the central Melbourne area. They have a fabulous area now in the old  Olympic area and more Government money coming. Every time I go by there I mentally weep. The MFC should be in there however we blew it so now we take the left overs what they are in the future who knows, but we need to do something very soon.

Our own conservativeness,  has been stifling us for decades.

It's like we're being choked...  by that  'Mcc' necktie,  they have in the dresser.

So where LH?

I have no idea od.

For me this is one of the most depressing threads on this board as every Vic club is getting tens of millions for their existing grounds and we are homeless.

I usually don't read this thread but was lured back by the orange 'Hot!' flag - thought something good may have happened for us.  Alas not, just another club getting more millions.

Maybe the Club needs to rethink the Melbourne in the MFC. Does it refer to the CBD and inner area around the G or the broader metropolitan area. Time to think for the present but also one or two generations ahead. Thhe hawks got out of hawthorn and the rest was history. And now they have the foresight to be moving from Waverly.

Yes LH and it has all been said before. Let's hope there is something to talk about before 2019 comes to a close.

Any ideas SW?  Wait for the Hawks to vacate Waverley and refurb in 2022?  Casey development?  Need funding help for either etc.

Continue with the present mish mash and no genuine club/home?

I know the Board has been working on a plan for a long, long time.  Unless we can convince Melbourne Victory  to move out of AAMI, thereby relinquishing their soccer pitch area outside, where we could build something long-term ( and Large), there are virtually no other options in inner Melbourne.

The option ( and I am sure it has been examined) where I think the best chance is at Caulfield racecourse:

Unfortunately the MFC hasn't been mentioned in any articles about this redevelopment, but the land is sure there.....

There has been talk also of a purpose built ground in the area under bolte bridge. That mightvattractvsome government dollars as they need community infrastructure down there to service people who live in the docklands and the thousands that will be living in the big  new development between North Melb train station and Arden street.

The Fisherman's bend development might also represent an opprtunity.

The race club will want real money for the lease of any admin facilities. The oval is another matter but isn't it used as a carpark on race days not to mention that the early part of the Caulfield carnival may begin during the finals season. ( A big problem for a club like the MFC which features so strongly at that time of year !)

As you say worth investigating because it ticks the box of a multi use facility. Our training watchers could combine with some good track watching.

I think we missed an opportunity at Moorabbin. It is close enough to our heartland, decent facilities on the back of council and government funding, and easy enough to get to for players living in the south east. It also ties in nicely with our relationship with SMJFL.

Growth area for the club is the CBD. We need greater presence there. Undoubtedly. If we don't someone else eventually will. It's no longer just a business hub it is now home to tens if not hundreds of thousands of people and will continue to grow. Sport is an effective means to get new people to a city and especially a country to "fit" in. We have rightly targetted the Asian student demographic and you see more of them at games now, either as a "day out" for fun to check it off the bucket list or even more people you can tell have embraced the club. I see them because I sit in AFL Members near GA and the number is growing.

If we want to be the Yankees or the Knicks or the Lakers of the AFL, we need those supporters. Our core base is too concentrated and small to rely upon exclusively for growth. We need presence in growth areas with young populations.

I think it was Bartlett who said we needed a shop front in the CBD. Sell tickets exclusively to Melbourne games. Small steps but we need a foothold.

Let me make this claim based on no inside information...

I predict that Collingwood will relocate their training facilities to Victoria Park and we will take over theirs at Olympic Park.  Collingwood will choose to move because of a multi-million dollar upgrade supported by Federal and/or State Governments. Our new facilities will also be upgraded as part of the deal. While the fingerprints of Gary Pert will be found all over the plans, it will be Eddie McGuire who will bask in the glory of taking Collingwood "home".

Great theory wish it were true

The last line fixes everything DJ, the Hawks don't seem to have been affected adversely by being at Waverely or Dingley.

Docklands or Casey seem the only options to me and as Docklands is probably 10+ years away at best it is Casey for me.

I don’t think Casey will ever be a viable option, it’s 55km from the MCG and takes anywhere from 55mins to 90mins to get too (it’s quicker to get to my parents farm in Trentham which is 101km away from the MCG than Casey Fields in peak hour) Waverley and Dingley are 24 and 26km respectivley from MCG and take far less time to get too. Plus Waverley is the Hawks previous home ground and they have considerable membership located around the area.

If we’re considering a home base miles away from our home ground, it’s far quicker by road to go the same distance north than south east from the MCG, so we would be better off with a base in the acres of free space near Taylor’s lakes which is only 26km from the city and takes around 47mins in peak hour.

the starting point was their abode not the mcg.

Anyway, the original point to which the travel time relates was it is the admin staff that would have travel difficulties to Casey more than the players who tend to live east and south of the cbd and travel outside peak time against the flow of peak traffic.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
