I know we are only playing with 14 players on the ground each week and it's a credit to those 14 to get the ball in so often, but, who are our forwards coaches because we don't seem to have any plan, system or confidence when it's in the 50 arc!

Why worry about the forwards? The biggest problem is the midfield who over handball, stuff around with it then bomb it in long to anywhere in the f50, anywhere would do.

100% agree.

If we don't fix this in the off season it will be time for the rebuild drums again.

You would think Nick Reiwoldt or Wayne Carey would be available(payable) to come down and talk forward craft to forwards and mids.

recon you're right Damo. recon i spotted nat jones in there as well.

There's clearly no connection between the forwards and mids. 50/50 blame.

The only thing I can say to defend the coaches is that the forwards are trained to focus so much on defensive work - partially because the midfield and backline have been so poor defensively to start the year - that they have lost a lot of attacking focus. The backline and midfield are defending far better and the forwards are going ok in that regard. The focus can shift back on to attacking play.

Also look at the personnel:

Hannan's 3rd game this year - rusty as heck.
Garlett - cooked
Spargo - limited
Tommy Mc - awful

Hunt, Petracca, Weid ok.

Judging a coach largely requires talent, which means a healthy and confident Tommy Mc or a different tall target plus some better smalls.

Anyone who knows my posts would know that I hate potting players but I seriously thing  TMac needs a spell in the 2s.  A man without a plan.

yep... the vaunted midfield is not playing well.

Perhaps ban Oliver from hand balling for an occasional quarter or two

More to the point 7 goals 15

AN ABSOLUTE INDICTMENT ON THE CLUB, COACHES AND PLAYERS who just cannot kick a friggen goal.

Sheeeeit it aint that hard from set shots!! It really isn't!

This after last weeks debacle. we are very SLOW Learners.!

Oh Yeah, give me Nick "Freddie Mercury" Reiwoldt anyday

Kicked CRUNCH goals and was a real "Dead eye [censored]"

Poorly coached and bereft of talent. Down there with Gold Coast as the worst forward line in the league. At least they have Sexton.

22 shots on goal should be enough to get the job done, but almost none of them are renowned for their kicking prowess.

Not in his early years he didn't,  'PF'.    He was as bad as 'Richo'.

Riewoldt fixed his kicking around the time he played predominantly wing.   Half way thru his career,  he got much better.

Tell me I'm wrong but that list of former players does not scream "skill, vision and finesse" to me. ALL OF THEM were either backmen or good honest battlers.

Maybe some assistant coaches who were renowned for their skills and vision might impart some teachings about skills and vision to our players? Just a thought.

*Mods - The forward line coach thread should be subsumed into this broader one.

In other sports around the world (notably the NFL & NBA) clubs often do a cleanout of the assistants whilst at the same time keeping the head coach.

Some responsibilities might be taken from the head coach as a matter of course too.

And you don't want to necessarily wait until the proverbial hits the fan before making those changes.  Rebuilding of the list to varying degrees are often needed too.

We have to do something and only a thorough review will reveal what we need to do.  Those doing the review need to be detached or semi-detached from those who they are reviewing.

Interesting watching casey with more afl players available this week had much more space in the fwd50 and a clear change in plan and execution. Hopefully its the start of change.

If we insist on bombing it in we need a man mountain. Rest Tommy Mac FFS give Preuss a few games in a row.  This years average stats.
