I've tipped us also. Just a gut feel plus Hawks off a 6 day break and we have had plenty of rest and time to sort out our issues going into Forward line.

@Drunkn167 any inside info regarding Declan debuting?

He’s gone quiet hasn’t he, Dec must be playing.

how is this an opportunity? an opportunity to come 13th instead of 14th? the season is gone. it was gone 3 weeks ago.

play kids and send all injured players away for surgery and dont show me goodwin's face again dribbling out the same cr@p about getting better. I dont want to get better unless it means making finals, otherwise I'd prefer to perform worse and get good picks and illicit more personnel changes

Very quiet. And he doesn’t post during games or training sessions either. Maybe Declan is @Drunkn167. The plot thickens.

When have I heard this tactic before..?

I'm on top of two tipping vcomps one of ewhich is quite big and has been running for 15 odd years. I have won it once, years ago, but struuggled ever since - in part because i always pick the dees.

I want to win. Have been mulling over the dees game and have landed on picking us.

Go dees. We'll win by 23 points.

In 10 days?

It'll take a season.

?

I expect the effort will be there, but we have too many key players injured/down on form. Between our cobbled-together backline and misfiring forward line, hard to see us getting a win here.

But heh, go dees.

I would like to see a team selected that can win.  In part to get some optimism back and in part to get the monkey off our back for a while.  We can all see the effort is being made.

Plenty of time later in the year to 'play the kids' and it will be a lot better for them and their confidence coming into a winning team than one with a string of losses behind it.

The policy of 'playing the kids' actually seems to have been in denial for some time and hence, few are ready. Placing their footballing education and development in abeyance 'for a while'' has actually worsened our current, injury-riddled circumstances and leaves a gaping hole in our readiness for week-to-week competition. Instead of earning occasional kicks and intercepts, these players should be earning their share in a contributory team performance.

Who's injured and likely to be missing from the Hawthorn team?

Should I have a word to my mate Bruce the Basher and see what he can find out?

Have genuinely lost all interest. My last game I’ll be attending until Queens Bday as I’m off overseas for 3 weeks, and actually feel relieved. Usually I’d pay to watch the games lives while I’m away, but I’ve decided a break from this club for 3 weeks will be good.

So yeah, football on Saturday. Meh.

No changes except injuries please. We need continuity desperately right now.

Disagree sending the weed to Casey. He's at the point of his career now where he needs to be accumulating game time in the AFL, not going back to the VFL and coming back with a false sense of security having played a good game or two in the 2's. He's learned everything he can in the VFL already. Stick fat, he has all the attributes, he just needs more and more games. Hell, some decent i50 entries probably wouldn't hurt either? He is a beautiful set shot on goal, I reckon we focus on having him laced out by our mids/wingers a few times rather than lamenting his bad form when he's only getting delivered pure chaos ball. He will start hitting the scoreboard when this happens.

Get behind him, if only that there is really no other hope for his type on our list.

On the flip side, a dominant game in the VFL may increase his confidence.

I hope it doesn't rain or be a wet game otherwise it might be a replay of round 4 last year. I still have rude flashbacks of O'Meara running past every Melbourne player on the field to kick a soccer goal.

Forecast says it may rain in a bit in the morning, but hoping it holds out until Sunday.

We're playing Satdy!

Birchall (who hasn't played in years), Frawley and Mitchell.

Hawks supporter have been banging on about how injury ravaged they've been but they're not far off full strength. No excuses for them.

Does it matter LDC?

I think our current structures are hurting him more than his confidence. Getting dropped to VFL in itself is detrimental to confidence anyway

I too am really [censored] off at the moment and decided not to attend on Saturday. However, @Moonshadow , pleaded with me to go because he has no friends and is uncomfortable being alone.

Anyway, for some reason, a sliver of optimism has been ignited and I think we have some chance. My main concern is who is going to kick goals to give us a winning score. I really hoped Preuss would be back as he appears to be good for a couple himself but, more importantly, gives us some structure.

Dropping Weid won't make much difference because he's given us [censored] all this year. We urgently need TMac to regain some form and god help us could we find a crumber.

I've said it before but I would like to see Jones playing forward pocket.

I actually miss the Sunday games. At least the disappointment only occurred the last few hours of the weekend rather than on a Saturday or Friday where it lingers round longer spoiling your weekend.

We need experience in our young players; time for them to come into the side in larger numbers - this is a rebuild.

Surely this is a joke. This is not a rebuild, we have already rebuilt. We are looking at a team that under prepared in the preseason with a massive injury list that has now also lost some confidence.

How could this be a rebuild?!

Because we have too many who are not good enough?

I thought older generations were known for fixing things instead of throwing them away?

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
