People complain about the performance of the side, so we make changes and then people complain about uninspiring changes.

For mine, I'm happy to see some fresh and faster legs in Garlett, Lockhart and Stretch. T Smith for Preuss is a downgrade, unfortunately, and I'm not a fan of bringing ANB back this soon, but it's not like we're loaded with other options.

Re Smith he was doing ok until this game last year when Rance jumped late (supposedly) for a mark and rammed his knee into Smith's back fracturing his ribs and puncturing his lung.  Shame Rance isn't playing but Smith can seek revenge by playing a top game for us.

I think that game with Tim Smith's injury was the year prior, not last year?

I'm also not sure whether the Lynch/Riewoldt thing is as bad as it has looked but fingers crossed it messes up this weekend!

I hope they do. Gawn was left to be worked over by Port Adelaide - we were weak. It took 3 years of Roos to eliminate the "soft" tag - it's coming back, I reckon. The midfield are hard around the ball, but the team doesn't fly the flag.

I thought Garlett had played his last game after poor efforts last year and a terrible showing at Casey prior to a week ago.

I am glad he got a chance to redeem himself and show us all what he is capable of. On his day he is electric. Needs to get rid of the timidness and attack everything. I wish him well. If ever we needed some magic its about now..

Absolutely put Jayden Hunt on the wing. I have a feeling he’ll come into his own this season (despite everything around him crumbling a little bit).

Please leave your best players on the ground for as much time as possible.  They want that too.  Use the interchange for your average or developing players in building the team.  Ask any great player if he wants to spend time on the bench.  Sure bet he says no!

Doesn't work like that anymore. The bench is used for rotations moreso than "spare" or backup players like in days of yore. Few players spend more than 80% of gametime on the field.

Hardwick: Seven years as head-coach of Richmond before success (notably losing out to Dean Bailey who was given the flick at the lowly and compromised MFC after three years). First finals appearance after four years, after which the team dropped out of contention again. One flag since and back to the pack already.

Buckley: Took over a premiership team and two years later it was out of the finals for a prolonged stint. Seven years altogether before he got the club back to the decider - finishing in 13th the year prior. Ultimate success still wanting.

Simpson: Took over and coached the team to a grand final in his second year, before scraping into the finals on the last day of the season just two years later and being utterly wiped out by the opposition in the second week (more so than the job they did on us last year). Found ultimate success a year after.

I could go on. Beveridge - adopted a premiership window team and had a dream run through the finals, then what? Ross Lyon, perennial failure with up followed by down. Roos - one flag in eight seasons of coaching the Swans, with no return in the following five years. Chris Scott - see Buckley basically. Even Clarkson - took the young Hawks to a flag and then dipped out of the finals altogether.

Have faith in your team and its coach.

I thought Keilty had played stronger games then Smith, but the really bad game against Box Hill hurt his chances and Smith has probably been more consistent.

Plus Smith does have some AFL experience and to blood a rookie on a really big stage like Anzac Day eve is just too risky I think.

Hey Drunkn - I admire your spirit, composure and level-headedness since you've joined this site and persistence since. I'm disappointed your brother hasn't been given a gig yet this year - especially in light of Tmac and Weids' form so far (and Petty getting a shot last year, although that may have ended up detrimental to your brother's cause in the long run) and I'd probably be just as disappointed if it came down to just the one poor outing v Box Hill. Without betraying your inside line to the club, can you give us any indication if Dec is close, what they're saying to him for example? Encouraging? Needs to improve certain aspects etc.?

If Brandon Ellis was playing for us tonight would that swing the game in our favour? What about Prestia, Broad or Edwards? Balta, Stack, Higgins or Baker? 

Tigers game plan as mentioned earlier relies on speed and pressure, and on current form being us getting pantsed by the Saints and Tigers beating Port at home missing five of their best doesn’t look good for us.

We clearly don’t have as many skilled ball users as Collingwood but we need to do what they did and match Richmond’s pressure, there will be no excuses for not doing that. 

We need to lay some big bone crunching tackles and hurt them. Starting with Jones, line someone up and clean them up....fairly. Pushing and shoving equates to nothing. Our intensity must be there for four quarters or don’t bother at all.

And the ability to hit the scoreboard would go a long way to winning this game.

Id love to know what Jones has done if anything with regards to getting the guys up for this game.

It is not about effort or enthusiasm it is about skill and speed. We are seriously lacking both at the moment. Too many VFL level skill players in the side and we have recruited a team of inside tough players in recent years who are mainly slow by nature. Then add a few players who are clearly over the hill and should have retired last year and you have the receipe for our performances this year. The 666 change has left our recruiting bare of fast outside players. 

Of course our list of injured players has not helped. 

We will need to add speedy players over the next couple of years or another decade of mediocrity awaits.

This feels like the kind of game that Garlett tears apart, and kicks three goals.. And then in four weeks he will drop off alarmingly before being out of the side again by mid-season. At that point I imagine it will his last AFL game.

I think Jack Riewoldt coming off a 3 week wrist and knee injury is an ideal time to play them. He’ll probably be quite underdone.

If my memory serves me correctly, Riewoldt used to have a horrible time playing against TMac back in the day. He had one good game in 2017 where he played most of it on Frost.

I agree with that frankie.  One reason I'm happy to see Lewis back for a while longer.  Doesn't take any BS and happy to dish it out.

May should be handy in this area also IF he can get his [censored] together.

The days of Garlett going hell for leather at Casey are well and truly over, if they were ever there at all Jnr.  He is obviously only interested in playing at AFL level.  I'm surprised some people still think he is going to (needs to) light things up at Casey in order to earn a call up.

While I agree he sometimes doesn't set the world on fire at senior level either, he at least knows where the goals are if given the chance and usually makes the most of an opportunity.  And it's slim pickings for us in this regard right now.  Any smaller forward who can crumb a little and finish is better than none.

His main problem is he doesn't defend when he's not switched on. Ive lost count of the amount of times I've seen his opponent run the ball out our F50 while he's hanging out in the goalsquare waiting for a Joe the goose. My guess is he'll be back out of the team before the bye and probably for good this time.

For a political war started in Europe by an irrelevant assassination and arguably also led to a second politically motivated war. Many of our men were killed or maimed psychologically and physically for a war that was a terrible waste of human life for very questionable reasons.
