Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

They only get Anzac Day with Pies

We get Anzac Eve with Tiges

we get QB with Pies

Hawks get Easter Monday with Cats

Tiges get R1 with Carlton

Recently GF has been Roos v Dogs  Roos pushed for GF for years “RCH game”

trying to justify/tie it to RCH.  North and Footscray were two suburbs nearby the hospital

for some reason this year, Dogs (don’t think they were seen as good enough for potential showcase game) replaced by Essendon - logical replacement given proximity of RCH to both clubs.

Several fans could ask why we get QB ( birthed from 50s folk lore)

Essendrug have lost their time-honoured mojo. The AFL is attempting to bring it back after recent years of public disgrace. No stone will be left unturned. Hark, the herald angels (fans) sing (complain). Returning silence is appeased and compensated by payments from the AFL. This will assist the Bummers to meet their pharmacology costs, nudge, nudge ... wink, wink. In the meantime, nothing is happening and it is their time to sip freely from the pig's trough.

The trouble with these dedicated slots is that they distort the draw generally and can lead to poor matches depending on how the 2 teams are travelling at the time - there may be much better matched teams to play in the slot and often this will be predictable by the end of the preceding year. (Of course this is not foolproof, but has to have a higher probability of getting it right than just playing the same 2 teams every year).

It is hard enough to arrange a draw without these extra constraints (no matter whether the criteria for the draw is be nice to big clubs or one of the other many aims the AFL or supporters may have).   While it may be fairer to the clubs which are not already getting these 'featured annual' slots, if the AFL keep on adding more of these annual events it will all get even harder.

To produce a better overall draw over the entire season, maybe it would be better to drop the lot of them - even from a commercial point of view.  Won't happen though.

Same reason as why Collingwood hasn't played at Geelong for 20 years and we seem to get that honour every season - it isn't a level playing field

Essendon,Collingwood,Richmond, (usually) are spared the handicap of playing at Geelong, the venue that Victorian taxpayers funded, but only Geelong members can fit in.

Why don't all the prime slot Games get put into a hat before the start of the season, and before the draw is done and every club gets their name put into the hat, and a draw takes place. Then the rest of the draw for the season is built around who, and who doesn't have their name drawn out. This is called fairness. I realize that  this would be a possible loss of revenue, but surely it could be made up by a small deduction in Salary.......

Are you serious?

A Blockbuster game is that because people want it and watch it

it also makes the Broadcasters a lot of revenue

Good Friday is a strange one, Nought Melbourne are such a sterile entity, if not persistant

Isn't the mere malaise of "winning at all costs" bad enough.

Now this is why players, coaches, administrators, etc etc, should never read anything on the internet.

Imagine the anxiety and depression this irresponsible idea could induce in someone like Gil McLachlan if he saw it. It's like a living walking nightmare!

Gil: if you're reading this: the rest of us want double header blockbusters 8 times per season, Collingwood & Essendon every Friday night, and you can f*** off low drawing clubs to Darwin, Shepparton and Hobart permanently. Do this and we in turn promise to watch every match every week on TV including all ads. Chin up mate.

To Mr willmoy: sorry, your concept of "fairness" (interesting word: it apparently means "impartial and just treatment or behaviour without favouritism or discrimination" ... going to be a long night on google for me) has no place in this modern entertainment experience sporting competition.

The AFL is all about crowds, TV ratings, sporting hegemony, women's rights, racism (anti, in case you were wondering)., LGBTQI (pro), cheaper pies and chips, indigenous rights, millenial relevance, China, social inclusivity, cancer (anti), disease (anti), drugs (anti? to be determined), diggers, peace, dignity, justice and truth. There may be a sporting competition involved but that's not as clear.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
