If he wanted a window club and swans looking to deal, yes or no?

NO

This really depends on contract term, cost of trade (likely not much due to salary cap dump) and how much he takes in terms of salary cap & if this will effect retaining current players.

I cannot see these all aligning so I doubt it will be worth it....

Buddy is not a team, he is an individual.   Individuals don't win Premiership Cups ... they just draw in crowds.

... and they cost too much from the cap.

If we paid $600k a season and Swans the rest.

No, because he would cost us more higher ranked young kids and we have passed on too many in the last couple of drafts.

Nah.  Would suit a team near the bottom of the ladder looking for a dominant forward.  Oh heck, that’s us!

even then, I would say no.  I don’t see the fit of someone with a sway back, can hardly train, whose kicking has dropped 10-15m in penetration and comes with a huge contract.  Think his time is approaching.   Let the swans keep sucking this lolly.

How much footy is left in him?

It is actually very hard to tell right now

Surprisingly I actually think he will play longer if he returns to Vic than if he stayed in Sydney. They need a new coach and need to start focusing a rebuild around Heeney.

He definitely has another 3-4 years left. He is in pristine shape.

We are paying Lever and May 800k each right?

If the Swans come to us, we can give them salary cap relief for 2 years and they can pay all but 900 k annually for 2020 and 2021.  Then we have the option of shifting him back for 2022 onwards, where he may be of 'some' use to them by then.

I think Hawthorn are in the box seat.  He will play for them for peanuts I'd imagine.

Hawthorn supporters (with Buddy) and Geelong supporters (with Ablett), didn't get stupendously irate like MFC supporters with Scully.  If we had calmed down to a rational level (a kid was offered the deal of a lifetime that we would have encouraged our kids to accept; and the club forced him to lie essentially), and our medical team was on par with Hawthorn's, Scully would have come back.  No doubt whatsoever.

Sorry, I just can't abide that comment.  Ablett and Buddy loved their clubs, had played for them for 8-10 years and helped them win multiple premierships.  Both highly respected inside and outside their clubs.

No comparison to HWSMBN who played for a year then had a dubious knee injury.  He made it obvious he did not want to play in the red and blue, didn't get on with teammates, walked out on a trip to China and showed no respect for our club, President or fans.

No prodigal son scenario for him at the Dees, imv!

The swans deal has finally turned. It was in retrospect a good deal for them but both time and the game itself are passing him by.

The final years of Buddy's contract will be watched with interest as the Swans try to get the final pay out outside the salary cap

No thanks

BTW Scully would have been the perfect pick up as I said at the time. Perhaps far too much angst by some.

Sydney put up a dodgy TEN year deal to get Buddy.

No club, NO club should help them out.  Let them bear the consequences.

And if Sydney are trying to get rid of Buddy, ask St.Kilda what sort of condition Hannebury was in when the Swans traded him out.

I think its bloody embarrassing that people are saying we're a window club etc. As far as I'm concerned, this concerned we've been hammered by port, hammered by geelong, beaten by essendon. And it's only round 4. This attitude by the fans that we are somewhat a powerhouse club is embarrassing and probably rubbed off on the players too .

I'd take buddy in a flash for the right price.

wait, how is it dodgy? it was a big risk and he has done well at his time there.

We're paying May 800K/year? Jeebus. He's just an OK player and injury/suspension prone.

Big fat NO to Buddy.

it was a deal that on most people's estimation went beyond the length of his likely playing career.

As it has turned out they didn't get it too far wrong but it was still an unusual deal.

Our big weakness is we have no key position specialists. We tend to shuffle guys around and play them out of position. The advantage of this is that we are hard to match up on. The disadvantage is that we often don't get the job done that we need to be done. Buddy will be out of the price range of most clubs and staying with the Swans will hamper their development. Can only see him going to a bottom club and likely with the Swans paying much of his wage. I don't think Buddy would go for that. He is something we don't have but if we did OK without Hogan we will do ok without Buddy. That said, at the right price I would have him in a heartbeat. Thought this article was insightful. http://www.hpnfooty.com/?p=5520

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
