1. Gawn?

This is the Demon awards, not the Bombers.

6) Brayshaw

5) Harmes (3 goals from the midfield but Shiel probably got BOG)

4) Oliver

3) Hunt

2) Gawn

1) Petracca (typical 1 quarter cameo, but it was good)

Hibberd, Jetta and T Mac can cop most of the blame for our disastrous start to the season, as their supposedly A graders.

6: brayshaw (and he butchered it all night long)
5: gawn (we're going to run him into the ground early this year)
4: harmes (three goals from midfield)
2: oliver (and he butchered it every time he kicked)
1: hunt (three goals in first game as a small forward)

it was ugly this evening

6 - Brayshaw
5 - Oliver
4 - Harmes
3 - Hunt
2 - Gawn
1 - Petracca

Brayshaw, Oliver, Harmes and Gawn have lifted since Round 1. But the other 18 are struggling to match them.

6 Gawn - Our only clear winner, although their three rucks nullified him after half time. But a brilliant first half by our big boy.

5 Brayshaw - Would have liked him to have hit a few more targets, but he kept having a go.

4 Hunt - Our liveliest forward all night.

3 Oliver - Great second term with his run and carry but went back to his pissy little handballs after the long break. Not sure but he may have been a bit of a downhill skier in second half as well.

2 Hibberd - I suspect he got a major rev up from Goody at half time, because he was one of the few that lifted after the break.

1 Harmes - spanked by Shiel but least he did work hard to the end.

Please mods, may I use the above and save me typing. On the long, lonely, drive home and with ( too) much time to reflect on the game, the above was what I came up with!

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
