Went exactly how I thought.

Positives: Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney all looked way better than last week. Viney in particular.

Still so many passengers, and we have no one to replace them. Very concerning.

Our game style is shithouse. It’s like we’ve gone back to 2014 when Paul Roos was just starting to teach our players how to defend and they were running around like headless chooks.

25 more inside 50s. Lose by 80 points.

I don’t think that’s ever happened before.

Teams usually win by 80 points when they have a 73 - 48 advantage in inside 50s.

Stopped watching very early 2nd qtr, when it was apparent we were no better than last week.

Ok, we know the talent is there, so what happened?

Was it effort?

Was it game plan?

Was it literally "one of those nights"?

ATTITUDE....

Cant blame backline, no forward pressure no mid field pressure our year is done.  10 to 16th we will finish

How can you say that when we had WAY more inside 50s than them. You’ve missed the point entirely.

I spent $615 on a redlegs membership for a guaranteed grand final ticket. For what? Watching this crap? Our forward line and backline are a shambles and we are slow and can't use the ball properly. Only a handful of players putting in and that is only the start of our problems.

You fooled me once Melbourne you won't fool me again. Back to 3 game membership for me. What a disgrace this club is.

How about me I just clocked up my 20th consecutive year in the Redlegs....

I expected that this would be a comfortable loss but it’s the way this team lets everyone down that is just so depressing and predictable

Pauline Hanson complains about being stitched up by the media. We have been drowned by media bathwater.

Rubbish.  It's marathon, not a sprint.  We'll be there in September.

I agree.

Are we in a different training program from other sides due to our high finish last year?

I recall Horforn losing various pre-season/early games in their premiership years.

maybe we are targeting a later "peak"

maybe i'm, delusional.

I agree re: the game style, LT.  It's a mess at the minute.  The stats suggest we are still doing some of the things that make us a good side, but our use going forward and the pressure in there is non-existent.  Not to mention the ease with which they run it out of there and the acres and acres of space they have.

This is the biggest worry for me.

These are the guys who we think are the future premiership core, and yet it's a copy and paste of our top 5 possession getters.

Where does our improvement come from?

Again, right now, it really isn't the problem.  The game plan is.  We bomb it, they get it and then run it down in space to score.  Rinse and repeat.

The game plan appears to be - no game plan

Just emphasise the lack of game plan #1, #2 etc

Why did we always seem to be receiving the ball facing in the wrong direction, so having to turn and get tackled or just hack it forward to the opposition. Plenty of grit but no system. Too many players down on confidence Jones, Fritsch, OMac, Hibberd. Max going OK but not linking up well with Oliver who put in a blinder and Viney, so to no effect.

You're probably right, although getting rolled by 80 points in Geelong wouldn't have been on the agenda.

We need to change some things in a big way, and I'm already keen to see that response on Friday night.

Forward line is stuffed, but there are massive problems in our midfield as well, which I think is worse.

Choo choo get's a pass, but the way the rest of them play is yuck. They get the ball, move it forward to no advantage whatsoever, and make us trivia questions on biggest loss after "statistical" dominance.

Trying to find positives right now, but it's bloody hard.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
