Max doesnt agree with you - he is on record as saying he wants the ball in his hands as much as possible. A different role to Gus and Oliver but equally important.

What else would he say, that he doesn't want him to have the ball? James Strauss was probably the best kick in our team too. (not comparing Salem to strauss)

So it's grand final day and someone says to you, you can either have Salem or Gawn/Oliver/Brayshaw and you'd make a case for Gawn or Oliver to watch from the grandstands over Salem? C'mon, you're getting caught up in the new signing. Salem is a very good player but not a great player in the likes of Gawn, Oliver and Brayshaw. i'm glad some of you guys aren't selecting the team.

That's a worry, we need to sign this boy up.

Always a concern with the Pies and Eddie Underhand.

Quite rightly Weideman is waiting a while to sign. If he has a 40 plus goal season his worth will be considerably more whoever he signs with.

Trade value aside if Hogan had stayed Weid would have been off at year's end. Now the equation is a lot easier.

Great news.

Love his hardness which has really come along the last couple of years.. I was starting to doubt him there for a bit.

Also worth noting that in comparison, Josh Kelly is a sloppy disposer of the pill.

Next you will be telling us that Dom Tyson and Angus Brayshaw are elite users of the pill.

Very happy with this - very skilled, great to see his right foot  kicking is getting better too

He’s had his fair share of trials .

Let’s hope he has broken the spell.

Many here were  too quick to judge.

I find it really interesting that the MFC only sign short contract extensions of a couple of years. I wonder if this is player driven or Club driven. As far as I'm concerned Salem has proven he can play at the level and beyond. (He's not a Weideman where there's not enough proof yet. Hopefully there is by the end of this season.) So why wouldn't you sign him up for 4 years not 2.  Preuss is one of the only players who's been given a 4 year contract. Go figure.

I haven’t looked but I imagine those deals end the same year both players become free agents.

So pleasing to see our good players signed up before the start of the season. Got totally sick of the constant speculation from the media about whether one of our champion young players were going to stay or leave, causing a distraction during the season. Time to keep eyes on the prize. All focus should be on the Premiership now. Let's all enjoy the ride.

not just that, but it means their next two to five year contract after that takes them part way thru the next cba, which is due for renewal at the end of 2022

Just imagine IF we had ended up with watts and hogan as 10 Yr players. still on contract.

As a destination club we keep ourselves fluid by not over committing.

If a top-line player comes along as available,  we might be in a position to grab them.

Lucky it isn't such a binary propersition.  22 players in the match day team and they all can play a role of some kind.  For so long we were crying out for good ball users and Salem has that attribute in spades - so does Clarry, but as much of a freak that he is, Oliver can't actually be in all positions on the feild at once.

Simple, isn't it? Good ball users win games. We need more of these types of players who resist bombs and look up to where the ball and receiver should be on the ground. Clarrie and Salem - it's a great start to what is required.

Salo always seems to find time and space to exercise his silky skills and football smarts, and his hardness belies his demeanour.   He might fly under the radar a bit, but he's a unique and vital cog in our wheel.  I'm rapt to have him on board.

I'm not sure he flies under the radar and more. Among my non-Melbourne supporting friends and work colleagues, he seems to be the third player (after Gawn and Oliver) who they comment on when discussing the best players in our team.
