  • 4 Teams hand picked by 4 Captains.
  • One team will be an All Indigenous side captained by Eddie Betts called Team Skill.
  • One team will be captained by Patrick Dangerfield and will be called Team Speed.
  • The AFL will pre-select 100 players of which the 4 captains will pick 10 players for their teams.

For once I will be quite happy for us to sit this one out.

Uggh. If it was winner in the first instance i would say AFLX has jumped the shark.

At lesat we are the only club who will have won the 'title'

It could possibly be a plan to have so many guns in rehab or with interupted pre seasons. Can’t pick them if not fully fit ?

a bad idea that got even worse... one really has to wonder whether the AFL is up to running this sport.

Take a lesson from T20.. expose the public via the lower leagues. If it takes off then bring in the higher leagues.

The concept is infantile...which can be fun, but not in this case. It’s a schoolyard concept and that’s where it belongs.

Please stop this rubbish. Nobody wants it or needs it.

A topline player will get injured sooner or later.

For what purpose?

Many have commented that it seems to be a deliberate policy of the AFL to soak up the media space whether it be by trading periods, the draft, AFLX or whatever.

Other sports just cannot get any free air.

This makes last years AFLX look like a genius idea.

My only hope is that we offer not one player and then Dangerfield does a shoulder and we will see how long this [censored] concept lasts for. Imagine the uproar from Carlton if Cripps gets injured. You can handle injuries, just, if they are playing for your side but to have one in a ‘made-for-tv spectacular’ would be a travesty.

My AFLX idea is to get the AFL executive each tied to a X and we could pick players (mine would be Sam Frost) and he can kick torps from 2m into said executive. You score by how close ball impacts nut.

Just shows how out of touch the AFL is. This is [censored]!

Happy to sit this one out, too - just to remove the unnecessary differentials implied. End of story.

I hope if any of our players are roped into this farce, they jog around half assed and dont risk injury. This sort of thing has no actual football value for the clubs. The AFL is the only likely winner from this as they have more TV games to sell in the off season.

I mean, dont they even care about their already shredded reputation any more? And they want teams to get out of pokies ffs.

Money-spinning farce.

Because AFL.

When will they stop tinkering with the classic aspects of our game? For the love of god!

Just throw that one year tradition out the window.

Omg. We don’t soccer to challenge AFL as the big threat. We will kill the game all by ourselves.

Care factor? Below Collingwood.

But wait there's more.

Loads of cash for the players and super hero themed teams.

You can't make this stuff up.

Here's the point of it all...I suspect "super hero theme" is code for players linked to the Marvel franchise. What a surprise.

How do the AFL manage to take something that absolutely no one liked, then remodel it and produce something that absolutely no one liked..?

I suspect that this is the alternate plan after the failed attempt to dress the AFLW players up in Marvel themed costumes/jumpers was howled down. .

Im actually astounded that they have managed to make AFLX worse.

Team Speed and Skill? Really?

I might watch it, but I also look at car crashes and natural disasters, maybe that's just me, I do hope none of our players play.

This is what happens when you pay people too much money to do a simple job.

Bizarre

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
