From an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies in which the Hollywood actor Dash Riprock’s (aka Homer Noodleman) friend and fellow actor Crunch HardtackĀ impressedĀ Jethro so much that he decided to giveĀ himself theĀ stage name of Beef Jerky... for some reason Hardtack seemed like a pretty good name to have.

Ā

A close friend part-owned a racehorse called Dan Zephyr. I was previously Demon77 and was looking to change my display name early last year. The name Dee Zephyr was suggested to me by another member on here andĀ I thought it was fitting as the horse was goingĀ through a long drought of over two years without a win.Ā

A week or two after changing my name the horse comes out and wins his last ever race to endĀ the drought.Ā The name stays until the main drought is over.Ā

Or if that's too far south for you, you could moveĀ to Kurnell just outĀ of Sydney. Obviously not Inner Kurnell. Far Kurnell is a much better place to be.

Hi FND.

Hows the weather up there about now?Ā  Penny making mischief ? Ā  I don't know how the ground can mop it all up.

Salute to the greatest political slogan I can remember. I believe Singleton came up with it for Labor's 1972 campaign which broke their 23 year electoral drought. Drought breaking hit an obvious nerve for a lifelong Dees supporter. When I chose it in about 2007 I thought we were entering the new era that was going to break our drought andĀ I didn't expect it to be relevant for more than a few years. Oh well. Will gladly replace it when it becomes redundant. Although by then it will be relevant to the 2 peat and then the 3 peat etc.Ā

The slogan and it's success had some significant impacts on my families lives. My brother had just been advised he was going in the next lottery for conscription to the Vietnam war. Whitlam won the election and immediately stopped conscription which probably saved my brother going there. He also brought in free tertiary education which I benefited directly from. That slogan heralded in one of the craziest political periods in our history. A breathtaking series of political reforms such as the Marriage Act and land rights and economic madness like the Khemlani affair and Junie Morosi. Who'll ever forget Al Grassby. Ahh they were the days. All leading to our greatest political crisis.Ā

What a slogan.

My avatar succinctly sums me up. We were born on the same day. Not the same year though. I got the clown bit without the genius bit but hopefully a healthy sense of the absurd.Ā  Other less kind people might say I got the absurd without anything else. Anyhow..... It's Time.Ā

Judging by your avatar you're a Usual Suspect.Ā

When Biffen was playing for us his father Leo, worked for my father and was a game day trainer for the team. I used to go down and annoy him with a thousand questions every time I went to my father's business. He used to give me used MFC training footys. I felt like a millionaire.Ā

Still waiting for Jaded to respond and explain whether her real name is Jade with a surname starting with D or whether her user name is just a description about how she feels. Or both.

At the time I joined Demonland we were a joke on and off the field and if you didn't laugh you'd have to cry. Hence, a kind of comedy.Ā

Note: I'm not a fan of users changing their names without explanation. In the spirit of full disclosure, I changed my name once - but only because I couldn't spell Comedia correctly.

Reminds me of an American sex education video we were shown in a Religious Studies class in about Year 9 at school. This was mid '70's. A kid was standing outside his High School with a beaming face proudly saying "I got it!"Ā

I changed mine back in 2011 when we had a 96 pt win over Adelaide at home after being only 14pts up at half time. It was false dawn time and i was standing on the seats belting out the song as loud as i could after the siren. The line, "what do we sing" just stuck in my head all the way home as did the smile that always follows that line.....it became obvious upon returning home what needed to be done.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, MelbourneĀ captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles atĀ Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.Ā  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, aĀ career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested),Ā nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.Ā

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
