Officially the longest injury list, at 15, with only a couple of rivals at 13.

We've also already used 34 different players, which is a number typical for the end of a season, not slightly before halfway.

Start by adding Vandenberg, Lever, Smith and Hannan, who are likely inclusions when fit and haven't yet played a senior game this season, and we're up to 38. Let's imagine that Kennedy-Harris and Maynard get at least a dip at the last-chance saloon. That takes us to 40.

Nietschke and Walker (what does 'indefinite' really mean?) are injured for the season, leaving only teenagers Chandler, Bradtke, Bedford and Jordan available for a season-debut.

So, Casey-watchers, of those 4, how many might get an AFL level game?

Throw in the possibility of a mid-season draftee who, if drafted, would be likely to play given the selection would lean towards immediate need. 41 + the four teenager possibilities.

If there's any comfort, Richmond made it to 42 players used in 2016 on their way to just 8 wins and rubbish percentage, before winning the 2017 premiership. So perhaps 'testing the depth' and a chance to examine what you've got is a secret advantage. Hee hee ho ha ugh.

Bradtke hasn't played a game for Casey (except I think against the AIS) so not much chance there.

As to the others one could say in racing parlance... "prefer others" but of course there are no others.

It would be a season to remember if we played everyone on the list in the Seniors. Bit like participation rewards that they hand out at primary school !

Cheers, slowly but surely some good players returning. Hopefully Hannan gets through and plays for Casey this week.

Looked like they worked on some goal kicking, posts within the goal posts.

Get a win vs GWS, whatever it takes.

Get back Lever, May, Hannan, Melksham, Hibberd etc...

Finals time baby.

The troops are coming. As I have mentioned before we turn at the bye with 5 wins ( I hope) then anything is possible coming home. Even if we do not sneak into the eight we will be at our best 2nd half of season and NO ONE will be wanting to play us.

I kind of agree with you, if we can find a way of getting a win this week (which being at the G isn't the craziest thing ever) while we then get Adelaide who are very inconsistent right now. Get a few of the troops back and we are a shot, that said though I don't want the club rushing players back if they aren't right just to make finals this year. We did that with Viney in 2017 and it came back to bite us, just get them fit and play them when they're ready.

May and KK due back next week too according to Goodwin. Casey I assume but that is great news!

Shows how much you can believe the injury list. One says indefinite and the other 2-3 weeks.

great news on KK who seemed to be permanently on the long term injury list. I want to see what he can produce with some continuity. although prior to injury he didn't look that fit.

I say put him on the long term injury list  in time for the mid season draft...at least we get back an active player on our list.

Except that he's training (check out the training update video), and will play next week. So there is that.

Great to hear.

Some good news at last..... pity the Casey game clashes with the GWS game at the MCG.

Another example of impeccable scheduling by the VFL !!

PS any more news on Weideman?

PPS... just noticed this line in Godwinn's press conferene...

Jordan Lewis, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Mitch Hannan, Charlie Spargo + Sam Weideman should all be available this weekend.

If the three concussed players make it through this will probably be the first week this season that we have had a net addition to available players !!!

Good for pur Casey side also as they get some quality senior players back in.

So after next week our injury could be down to:

melksham

jetta

smith

AVB

and Hibbo a week away

Kade Kolodjashnij (concussion) – 1-2 weeks
Jake Melksham (foot) – 3-4 weeks
Joel Smith (groin) – 4-6 weeks
Aaron vandenBerg (foot) – 4-6 weeks
Neville Jetta (knee) – 7-9 weeks
Guy Walker (shoulder) – indefinite
Aaron Nietschke (knee) – season

If (and yes it is very big if) we get a win this week there will be some very positive vibes coming from the club with so many players on the cusp of being ready for senior selection.

The problems with so many returning are:

1. Guys who have missed a significant amount of time are more likely to get injured again
2. Those guys will often perform below expectations, particularly May and Lever with high expectations
3. The other players will be disrupted as their won't be cohesion in the best 22 and many will be looking over their shoulders worried about their spot in the side. I can see it already, a fringe player has a bad week (ie. Josh Wagner) and gets dropped for a returning player (ie. Lewis) who then performs worse than the fringe player would've.

We really need a month without further injuries, the bye week to allow for some rest and main group training and some of the current side to really lock in their places to really get any benefit from returning players.

That has been the case all year and has failed to come up 8 times!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
