We will absolutely get ripped a new one re: the terms of this trade if AVB decides to leave - pick 42 or similar will not result in us landing a player of commensurate quality/value.

Really hope he stays. Kent too (although it seems that trade's virtually done and dusted).

Yes to Vanders but no to Kent.

Vanders gives you tough unforgiving footy 100 per cent of the time and Kent only in bursts.

What we learnt from the finals is that you need players and the team giving 100 per cent.

Sydney want picks for Blakey and I think we’ll hand over a couple of 2nd/3rd rounders for pick 12... and AVB of course.

Then use that pick on May?

In the words of Bruce, " delicious".

Pick 12 + sweetener to GCS for May?

Not what they have been carrying on about but better than other suitors can offer!

As an aside, if we were able to do that deal for May, it would strengthen our hand a little in the Hogan trade.  Freo think we are desperate for May and that we will cave on Hogan to get May deal done.  Do the May deal and Freo start to sweat a bit more!!  That will be fun to watch.

You watch. Someone like that Muppet Browne will report now that we're trying to get May via trading 2nd and 3rd rounders for a 1st rounder.

Very clever footwork if you ask me!

Is it my imagination or are the media talking down the trade value of our players out (Kent #72,  Hogan one 1st round) all the while talking up the value of other player trades eg Tim Kelly top 10 pick.  Lobbe a high 1st round pick etc etc.

Interesting if that did happen we would be running out of picks to use in the draft? We'd need to get some picks back somehow to fill the list spots?

We only need to bring in min 3 to our list. How many have we moved on and how many are we likely to pick up?

Potentially that and a sweetner might get us in with a chance if Jesse doesn’t end up in Perth.

The usefulness of mid-late picks for Sydney's academy options adds a whole new dimension to our trading, in that we might be able to claw a late second round pick all the way up to a late first round pick if the accumulated pieces are worth it for Sydney.

The AFL trade equivalent of uncrumbling a cookie.

Our young player are reaching their peak age in the next few years. It should offset the loss of VDB who is currently at his. A 25-26yo Petracca will be a sight to behold. Viney 24 right now, scary that he's getting better/stronger.

8 delistings or retirements so far I believe, with one of those from the rookie list. 4 players are currently on the trade table. We have 4 picks in this years draft.

Edit: I believe the poster was proposing to give up two picks for one first round pick which would be used on a trade. That would leave us with 2 live picks.

We may get picks in return for Kent, Hogan and maybe Tyson so perhaps not an issue.

I hope that does it. P12.

That's about right for May, IMO.

Sydney now have pick 26 and 28. Is one of those picks fair compensation for losing a player we don't want to lose?

I don't really know how this all works, but Jake Niall says that they were happy to swap 13 for 26 and 28 because those two picks give them the points they need to get Blakey as a father/son.

If that's true, then they might not be interested in trading them.

I am still wanting Vandenburg to stay. Really adds to our mix. Ready to deliver in 2019. But if he wants to go then

Vandenburg and MFC 3rd Rd pick 54 for

Swans 2nd Rd pick 33

that would be a horrible outcome. I'd prefer we try and get a ready made player back like a George Hewett

melbourne vs canberra vs tathra vs sydney

Swans just got Picks 26, 28 and 40 in the McGovern deal.

Perhaps they use one of those picks in the 20s for AVB?

Swans need points for Blakey, so won't be giving anything up this year I would have thought. Maybe it'll be a future pick, or player (Nic Newman now he's not going to Nth??), I'd say this will be a late trade so we'd have to wait and see what else they come up with first.

As @Red and Blue realist says Swans need points for Blakey and they get a 20% discount on the pick he is nominated at.

26 = 729, 28 = 677, 40 = 429

26 + 28 = 1406 which covers pick 6 = 1751 with the 20% discount, that should easily be enough.

They already had 33 and 38, so maybe one of them or 40 in play for VDB.  Well played by the Swans.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
