have been told trade for our second round pick is basically locked in. Will be done pretty quickly.

Thats fantastic if true.

We have cleaned up with those 2nd rounders around the pick 30 mark -    Hibbo, Melk,  Fritsch and now maybe KK.

Seems alot to pay for a bloke with concussion issues that are now miraculously fixed but yet GC still dont seem to want to fight to keep him and has been inconsistent.

My biggest concern however is how do l pronounce / yell his name on match day! Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue

You could probably do something really creative and unique by dubbing him “Kolla” or just “Kade”.

way overs if true. When was the last time a player at  a bottom club was told to look elsewhere and you traded a top 36 pick for him.

Makes AVB definitely worth a second rounder

O'Rourke was a pick 2 that was traded (with pick 43) after two years to Hawthorn for picks 19 and 40.

KK was a pick 5 five years ago who achieved far more in his first year than O'Rourke did in his two years at GWS.

Seems like a good, fair trade to me.

KK also fits our list profile perfectly.

‘A top 36 pick’??

Yeah, the best players are always there...

Is there really any gaurantee that they're at any particular number though ;)

Dees just do the deal that gets them the outcome they want.  If they pay slightly overs it’s not the end of the world.

The recent record shows they know exactly what they are doing.

The recent record of delistings also shows me they haven't nailed enough late picks.

King, Flipper, DJ, McKenna + Balic (both free to good home trades we took a punt on instead of a late pick), Hulett last year. I know the strike rate isn't great at these spots, but fighting for every little bit at the back end helps the recruiters.

We've certainly done well with recent trades, but there's no reason not to even better! KK isn't easy to get a value on, our 2nd round pick probably not a terrible deal but the Suns will probably have a lot of late picks they won't even use, I'd want to get some late picks or upgrades coming back. And of course the reality is any KK even done separately will be linked with a potential May deal so I'm not sure I particularly believe the optimism that it will be done quickly.

You neglected to mention T Mac, O Mac, Hannan, ANB, Fritsch, Spargo, Hunt, Harmes and VandenBerg.

I think our later selections have been above average.

Yeah, the club really suffered by having picks so late that we had to settle for Fritsch and Spargo as our first couple of selections. Disasterous.

T Mac was a football eternity ago. Oscar might not be any good, there's a big thread here about finding a replacement. Fritsch and Spargo were early/mid 2nd rounders. Hannan was our first pick in the draft that year, you'd hope someone you like gets through to pick 46. Certainly some good later picks in the Jason Taylor era - it's a big part of why we all rave about him -  but the better the pick the better the odds of finding more talent.

I'm not suggesting we take the lead of some of the clubs who think trade week is a chance for club staff to make a name for themselves with empty tough talk, but we aren't the battlers any more desperate to do deals to get talent. Could be the year for us to dig our heels in over some deals.

I understand what you are saying but Spargo was pick 29 and Fritsch 31. There were 47 picks after Fritsch (Jarrod Garlett - Carlton was pick 78) so neither were late picks

According to Craig Cameron on Trade Radio, Gold Coast didn't speak to the Dees at all today.

Probably little more to say at this stage, we both know where things sit and we need to work on other avenues before giving Gold Coast our attention.

Yep...phones work well at this stage.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

    TRAINING: Friday 28th February 2025

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
