Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I watched a handful of Eastern games last year in which Cerra featured.

He was unbelievable. A step above the rest in just about every facet.

Agree we should ask the question.

Unbelievable enough to do a straight swap?

FWIW, Karl Langdon just mentioned on SEN that he bumped into Jesse's mum outside Optus Stadium last week and "bombarded her with questions". She said Jesse loves living in Melbourne, he was homesick initially, but given his dad's death, does not have that drawcard anymore. He said she told him she loves coming to Melbourne city about 6 times per year to visit Jesse (I thought she lived in Melbourne???). Langdon flippantly added Hogan would be more likely to go to another Melbourne based club than to WA.

This is Karl Langdon, though, so grain of salt.

I think he mentioned he saw her in Perth a while back actually, but otherwise that's all right. As you say, Langdon... if anything, it makes it more likely he's gone now.

Once and for all. Is Hogan a RFA next year or not?

lol... Everyone wants to know, no-one wants to do the homework.

I imagine your knowledge is similar to mine. I believe players are RFAs until after their 7th season when they become fully free agents. But for all I know that might have been adjusted multiple times.

Freo would hold the cards next year, there's always the threat of the draft, I'd rather pick 5 and 6 this year thanks, at least we know what we'll get.

I would rather a Flag with Hogan in the side, rather than Draft Picks personally.

Hogan is contracted for next season.

The only possibility there you may have overlooked is that Jesse is signing a big time deal, and is driving up his price... It's been done before. Seems unlikely though...

Actually Im not overlooking it .  Thats exactly what he IS doing/did. He and his manager will have a strategy. Saying very little is part of it.

What I do suspect is that what we as public get fed is days/weeks old...again for show The driving up of the price has already been accomplished. All parties will pretty well know where they all stand, have done for some while Id guess.

There is very little that would be new in all of this. Everyone has known when Jesse's paper runs out. Freo will have had a very concerted effort running in the background for ages.Melbourne are no fools, they knew this was coming. So what happens? Well its a bit like a game of Misere etc.  It's all about the timing of the playing of certain cards. In this instance everyone says absolutely nothing untoward. You dont blink til you have to. Both Melb and Hogan wait for the offers...I am somewhat guessing but id have to think the offer is well and truly already known to Hogan from Freo ( for some time ). Melbourne in the main preo-ccupied as a club til our finals tilt ended but the List management people would be only too aware of anything thats happening. Thats THEIR job.

The word I am getting is that Hogan is not looking for a trade this year, but would not say no if one comes up to Freo.  Hogan has indicated he wishes to play out his contract but is yet to decide whether he will sign a new contract with Melbourne or Freo.

He has not and is not expected to ask to be traded this year.

How I would play this is as follow:

Do not trade Hogan this year unless something massively stupid overs comes up.

  • With Hogan we are in the Premiership window next year.  Many Demonlanders badly underrate Hogan.
  • We may win a Premiership with him next year.  It is unlikely, certainly less likely without him.
  • Unless there is some sort of disaster Hogan will have the same currency next season as he does this season.  Possible more.
  • West Coast will likely join the bidding for 2020, delaying gives them 12 months to prepare, further increasing his value.
  • Hogan is not a RFA until 2021 so there is no fear of him just leaving.
  • Hogan may choose to stay at Dees over the coming 12 months.
  • Most importantly this will give the Dees 12 months to work on recruiting Kelly. It would give us the picks and the salary cap to secure Kelly. The two top 10 picks we receive for Hogan can be used to get Kelly.

So I say roll the dice. Dont trade him this season. More upside to wait.

What, no riddle?

All of the bolded parts are your opinion, of course. Not fact, a given or even the view of many here.

One of your points is plain wrong. Hogan can just leave at the end of next year. He can go into the draft, nominate his price and go elsewhere, particularly if Freo finish bottom or near bottom. And he's a RFA in 2020, not 2021.

Not really DD. I would have thought that direction would have been signalled much earlier. Just my thinking granted.

We already have Hogan for 2019

Josh Kelly would involve a lot of movements. This year would be great if we can just move on Fringe/Casey players

Come on, Hogan's not gonna walk out on us to the draft and leave us empty handed. People bring this up every year and it never happens.

Hm. I'm still with it. The minute it's accepted he's eventually staying at demons, his signing price drops. If anyone leaked these rumours, it would have to be his manager.

But yeah fair enough. Can't disagree with you. It's all guesswork.

To be fair to GNF, he did present those bolded parts as merely his opinion at the beginning. I don't think he is trying to present them as anything but that.

Hogan needs to do us all a favour and put forward his intentions ASAP to put us all out of this our misery.

No. Players become FA after 8 years service. If they are in the top 25% of paid players at their club they are RFA's. If not they are UFA's. After 10 years service everyone is an UFA's.

Yes, as i wrote, RFA in 2020, not 2021 as you stated.

But he can leave at the end of his contract, RFA or not, under the scenario I mentioned.

UNRESTRICTED... That's the word I was searching for.

Yup. As I said in my first post. I hate looking into these details. They can change them at any time, and you can miss it if you don't watch afl.com on a daily basis, which I don't. So I just don't bother checking and rely on the good Doctors on here.

I know that mate, but I was replying to GNF who said There is little to no downside currency risk, which there is. What if Freo say right, here is pick 8, take it or leave it? We don't have a leg to stand on.

I'm surprised the club hasn't put this to bed yet if he's staying and even more surprised we haven't heard from Jesse.

It's not in the AFL's rules per se, it's part of the CBA so really any changes should only occur every 5 years or so.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
