  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This thread proves that many dees fans can't stand Hogans lack of defensive pressure and intensity. I'd throw in goal kicking too. but that's a story for another day. As supporters we all want us to win, so there is no agenda for not liking Hogan. So its purely his output on the field that isn't good enough in many supporters' eyes. And that's fact.

Wouldn't the coach have dropped him to the VFL like Gartlett if he was as poor as you're saying?

Slightly different question: Is Hogan in our top 5 most important players?

Honest question and I want to see what people think. I am not trying to bait anyone.

If the question is for the next 5 years then my list is Gawn, Oliver, Viney, Lever, and Hogan.  They are what clubs build a list around (if we can keep them all fit and on the park).  But the club imo has buolt a list that can still be really, really good if one or more of the above players are injured, as has been the case for 4 of them for large parts of 2017 and 2018

This is a question of curiosity. Why are so many prepared to put the player...before the club ??

Thats not to disrespect or dismiss the worth of anyone...but clubs win games/win premierships..  So says the great North Smith..and he knew a thing or two.  Maybe we listen to his words a bit more and the curse might lift ??

Im not the only one here suggesting a balanced reappraisal of his worth/position  to Melb is warranted.

These are professional footballers who whilst playing for a jumper are actually incredibly well remunerated.

He was brought in as the classic messiah /silver bullet type draft.  Getting him will fix everything.  He's but one player. At times very good, at others woeful in attitude. There may well be reasons for that but just like fitness..you cross that line  you better be focused....or go sort life out. Thats not said in nastiness...just maybe what some need to do..Other players have.

He struggles against better sides.. Arguably isnt helped by some coaching/selection  but what is..is. If he get nullified in games where his real footy ability would be real handy..what value that ??

Im not opposed to playing him down back @binman will recall we discussed this exact notion in other thread  only to be howled down by those ...you know...know it alls!!

I dont think he's ideal as a mid either...smart yes...slow to react at times.. that burns play. Hes a very talented footballer...i just dont know what his position is now at Melbourne.  Too many better coaches have figured him out.  Ours needs to too  and quickly .

Just pure garbage sorry.

That's a very fair assessment. I'd possibly have T-Mac in but that's subjective.

Tmac would also be fair.  I think Hogan has more upside.  He reminds me of Jack Riewoldt at the same age in attitude but a better athlete.

Do you think they'd ever play badly enough for long enough to get dropped?

Or counter:

Not be truly fit...but come straight in ? Because that happens.

I get angry just seeing this thread title on this forum, should be on big footy. I'd rather trade some of the posters. Speculation could be postulated in a much more respectful fashion-some of it reads like the criticism of Richo back in the day at Richmond.

Yep we're having a discussion, I am also allowed to take offense at some discussions, and I just find 'Trade Hogan' disloyal, he's not BHP shares, I am not silly enough to think everyone will agree with me, I am allowed to post my 2 cents though, as yiou say, it's a discussion .

I’m glad the people who have their emotions running wild at the very sight of this thread aren’t running the FD.

I fully agree. Running wild is a bit strong though, irritated would be closer to the mark.

The discussion is fine - this is a football forum - a discussion over the merits of trading someone is par for the course.

What is also par for that course, is the judgement of posters and the 'discussions' they seemingly can't stop faffing on about - so continue with the stumbling around in the dark looking for your proverbial pants.

Jack Reiwold has always been able to kick the ball 30 metres, without the stutterrrrrrrr.a bit to to left a bit to the right.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
