    Perth rainfall June and July 2019 550mm,  Melbourne  78mm. 

    Those "hard" grounds in Perth haven't worried the Eagles this year or any previous years.

    That ground is notoriously hard George rainfall records be damned; both freo and meth coke players and footy dept have commented on it

    Neither club trains there now as a result

    My youngest played halftime little league for the Dees v Eagles game at Optus. It was my first time walking on the optus surface. Noticeably harder than Subiaco Oval. Perth Ovals are built on sand which compacts hard and drains well, which doesn't allow for water to settle in like it does with mud/muck making it softer underfoot

    I think it's always going to be an issue at Optus

    I don’t know where you source your rainfall from but that is just plain incorrect regards Perf.

    Clearly Dave Misson's fault. Got all the hallmarks:

    - a foot injury (players only get foot injuries at Melbourne/under Misson)

    - a repeat injury (and as we know, repeat injuries only occur through either bad management or players coming back 'too soon')

    - an injury that was misdiagnosed: "scans have confirmed that his right mid-foot sprain was unrelated to the navicular injury he suffered with Melbourne"

    - an injury where it takes over a month to get an exact diagnosis (see above)

    - an injury where a short period out: "The Dockers' confirmed that the 24-year-old would return to playing football in the coming weeks." turns into "Fremantle this afternoon confirmed that Hogan will require a 16-week rehabilitation"

    - an injury where it takes over a month to get an exact diagnosis (see above)

    etc. etc.

    There’s injuries and then there’s ‘injuries’. 

    A navicular isn’t great - particularly one that requires surgery. 

    I hope he recovers and plays good footy for Fremantle.

    We’ve had 360mm since the start of the year. 

    212mm in June and 72 for this month and counting. But yes, Melbourne has still had a hell of a lot less.

    The soil is a hell of a lot sandier here, perhaps the drainage is better making the surface harder? Or maybe not, I have no idea.

    I recall when Jesse limped off against us I posted that it was very possible a navicular reoccurrence and that the Dockers would hide it for a while so as not to upset their fans. Both happened.

    Jesse has certainly had more than his share of bad luck both on and off the field. 

    Hope he has a bit of luck next year, but poor games against us.

    I said last year that i thought Hogan would  have his problems,  that he'd  never fulfill  his potential,  that he'd  never play a full season for us or anyone.  That's  not a slight as such upon the lad just an observation  based upon his fitness and disposition  towards the game. I sense he does enjoy being in Perth far more. Thats good for him. I was glad to see him leave us and i still think he has a potential  that will never be realised fully.

    It seems we have a respected medical team now that could woo perennially injured players. It'd be funny if we nicked him back from Freo in a year or two for a second rounder. :D

    Hope he’s luck changes as he’s suffered a fair bit with the loss of his father & then his own cancer scare!

Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
