Oliver to have surgery on BOTH shoulders!

Neitz, Oliver is a young footballer at the start of his career. He plays a crash and bash style of game. 

What does this mean for his longevity in the game? 

How many shoulder operations of this kind can you do? 

Is the decision to undertake this procedure precautionary or an indication of the seriousness of the damage already done? For most of us, surgery is the last resort only undertaken if all other forms of treatment have failed or not going to fix the problem. Professional sport is another thing, but do you think this type of surgery is sensible or the answer at such a young age?

    Sorry to hear it.  Guess it helps explain why Clarrie seemed to be missing a lot of handball targets in the past few weeks.  He certainly didn't seem to be the "same ole Clarrie".  Here's hoping for no complications, and a speedy, full recovery!!

    I'd image tackling is the hardest action with crook shoulders, or perhaps overhead marking. Wayne Carey had crook shoulders & it didn't stop him being a gun.

    Not in the early days, but he was very restricted toward the backend of his career. Had trouble taking contested marks above his head.  Despite his injuries he refused to rest his body insisting that he was OK to play each week probably to his detriment.

    Nevertheless, looking longer term, it is important to get him right.

    But as I understand the Latarjet is a lesser procedure than a full shoulder record ... is that correct?

    Extraordinary effort and The Age article today stated that he was

    first in the competition for contested possessions

    second for tackles

    third for clearances

    You can’t do much better than that as a midfielder; they would be the top 3 KPI’s for most midfield coaches. Mitchell gets 28 votes, Clarrie gets 13 votes?

    Yes it was, and for all of those with minds on off topic subjects, yes it was every bit as exciting as one might hope for.

    I don’t get why you keep referring to kryptonite and referring to it in the manner you are. The material itself is impervious to damage, particularly from heat vision.

It is the definitive solution to instability, and whilst there is bone healing required that lengthens rehab, particularly in respect to contact and heavy resistance work, outcomes are unquestioned. Clarry’s running fitness will not be compromised (he’s advantaged there anyway), just his contact involvement delayed. Good news, and a smart long term approach, IMO.

      Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
