Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

    Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

    Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

    We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

    However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

    The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

    Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

    We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

    WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

    Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Never mind. I can't explain to non competitive people about this topic. Rugby has more of this contact and no one really complains about physical contact in the game, fair or unfair. AFL is becoming soccer like in terms of those fans that follow it. Too many softies.

Bloody hell mate, @dieter himself will tell you that I am about as far from a "bleeding heart liberal" as you can get.

But on this, I am 100% opposite to your opinion.

What Greene did was not tough footy. It was a coward act from a bloke who was scared of contact. A stop to the face could easily remove someones eye. Think about what you are saying.

But the players need to police it or it will never be stamped out. The MRP is counter-productive as it is not owned by the players.

I never once hit anyone when I played rugby. My pride would not allow me to do such a thing. I like to win fairly.

Having said that, the players can only name and shame violent thugs. The MRP will never make it happen. Gaff is only ashamed because of what his peers think. They now see him as a sniper.

Agree entirely. Bravery on a football field is not about kicking someone in the face or chest.

This is an epic goal post shift. You’ve gone from endorsing Greene’s actions, about how tough he is and should be left alone, to rambling about the toothless MRP and how “the players have to police it”. The players should police a legitimate, tough tactic?

The dirtiest player in the AFL. I hate him but he is a good player. It should be outlawed what he's been doing.

Typically footy fans. You sort out people like Greene within the opposition team. Look at how Melbourne roughed up Geelong, that is how you deal with bullies. The MRP is toothless. The players only care if they miss a Grand Final because of it. It is a stupid American solution. There are better ways to deal with thuggish behaviour. The players can police it more effectively.

Yes in Martial Arts I have been kicked in the face a fair bit, you get used ti it, but no lasting damage. Plus you learn to block, it hurts less!

You sound like one of those meatheads that think street justice is the way to sort out problems.

don't like it. but it's going to be hard to define it

bit like when they tried to define chucking in cricket and used degrees of elbow bend with a different degree for fast bowlers vs spinners

certainly bringing the leg/foot upto the horizontal seems dangerous and unfair

That’s the way I see it, in a grey area of the rules but certainly a dangerous action. Not quite deliberate  kicking or instintive fend off. Nothing will happen until the lawmakers make a ruling on it or he goes head high again and hurts someone.

19.2.2 Specific Offences
Any of the following types of conduct is a Reportable Offence:
(a) intentionally or carelessly:
...
(ii) kicking another person;
..
(vi) engaging in rough conduct against an opponent which in the circumstances is unreasonable;
...
(h) attempting to kick another person;

15.4.5 Prohibited Contact and Payment of Free Kick
A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player where they are satisfied that the Player has made Prohibited Contact with an opposition Player.

A Player makes Prohibited Contact with an opposition Player if the Player:
...
(d) unduly pushes, bumps, blocks, holds an opposition Player or deliberately interferes with the arms of an opposition Player, who is in the act of Marking or attempting to Mark the football;
...
(k) engages in rough conduct against an opposition Player which in the circumstances is unreasonable;

It is unsportsmanlike, dangerous, goes against the spirit of AFL. We don't need another specific rule that says "you can't raise your foot in a marking contest"; the rules are already there.  The AFL just needs the balls to charge him.

It's a disgrace.

Wouldn't you rather see him taken to task by a few Melbourne players rather than the MRP. It is a more satisfying way to deal with a bully.

@Thehardtackler What we served up to Geelong is tough, hard and fair footy, Nev standing in front of Selwood and stopping him cold. I honestly think Greene should get lateral force to his knee and spend 12 months in rehab, it is that much of a dog act what he does.

He's not using the kick to protect himself, he's using it to guard space.

He's actually kicking out at an opponent and that's kicking in danger.

No need for a rule change.

Could also be seen as a kicking report if he makes contact, and he does.

Knee up for protection yes, foot up questionable but kicking out most definitely not.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

    Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

    TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

    The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

    There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
