Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Esprit de corps

From the Bernie Vince video:  "We have this spirit at Melbourne.  It embraces loyalty to the team, to the coach and to teammates.  It is the spirit essential for success"Norm Smith.

I assume that is behind the hs article.   I can't get behind the paywall but reports I've heard include:

- past players invited back to the club to tell current players of their experiences.  eg Bluey Adams tells the story of Norm Smith remembering player's families names.

- this 'esprit de corps' is reminiscent of Paul Roos resurrecting the South Melbourne 'Bloods' name and culture at Sydney.

If anyone can post more about the article it would be much appreciated.

We do have a proud history.  We have quite a few of the '64 premiership players still with us so there is a rich personal memory bank to draw on.  I really, really like that Goodwin is embracing our successful past. That players of our golden years are participating.  What a terrific way to help rid the baggage since then that the current team has been burned with.

This is a great article.

Totally agree @Lucifer's Hero - I love that Goody took the time to learn about our history, and impress upon the team just how rich and proud it is. He said the philosophy essentially embodies what the club was built upon when it was great. Fearlessness and togetherness.

I'm so excited about all of this. It's taken time, and there have been bumps (and there will continue to be bumps), but I can see that the team is building a new identity with the team as the core. Something the players live and breathe (including new players coming in), and a present/future we can believe in.

The curse of Norm Smith will only be lifted by playing as he did and by his creed.

All for one and one for all.

Go Dees.

I am very happy that Simon has had a hunger to read up on our deep history. I knew he had to, to begin to understand this club.

We are the longest running professional sporting club on the planet. That is something to be proud of. We also have 2 Threepeats.

When i saw Bernie’s farewell speech and noticed the back wall “Espirit de Corps” and remembered the Red Fox.

Many on here have dismissed the past, to try and forge a new one, bad move in my eyes. Simon is lucky to have Norm’s and Len’s shadow to learn from.

This Friday night will tell us so much, a big win, and look out.

I certainly do not dismiss the past, but believe eyes should be mostly toward to avoid the footy equivalent to a car crash. There is literally a lot to look forward to!

I do, however, dismiss ghosts and curses in the same way as gods being cloud fairies. Hocus pocus.

History teaches the present. How those lessons are acted upon is the future...

I am very confident I will never quite understand why this post quotes my silly little aside or even why it is in this thread. Truly bewildering.

Am currently reading Red Fox. Fascinating that all of this is  de rigeur.

This always should have been so,but I can fathom it's not always possible with all people.

interestingly the message seems to have evolved over the season. From not worrying about what has gone on before it, we cant change the past, to writing our own narrative to embracing our successful past.

I guess as the team knocks over various hoodoos and unwanted records it is finally safe to embrace the successful past.

He certainly comes across as measured (which frustrated me earlier in the season) and I get the feeling the players won't be overawed by their first final. The process, each contest and supporting/trusting your team mates mantra has been well drilled into them.

I'm excited for Friday.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
